This stage aims to clarify to students the main objectives of the lesson, guiding them on what they should learn and explore during the activities. By defining clear and specific objectives, students will understand the relevance of the topic and will be motivated to participate in practical activities, aligning their prior knowledge with the new information to be acquired.

1. Describe the main extractive activities (mineral, agricultural, and industrial).

2. Identify the environmental impacts of different extractive activities.

3. Recognize the importance of sustainable use of natural resources.

Introduction

Duration: 15 - 20 minutes

The purpose of this stage is to engage students from the very beginning of the lesson, connecting them to the topic through a practical and interactive activity. By searching for and sharing interesting facts about extractive activities, students will begin to reflect on the content studied, deepening their understanding and stimulating knowledge exchange. The key questions will guide the initial discussion, enabling a debate that prepares the ground for subsequent practical activities.

Warming Up

🟢 Warm-up: To start the lesson, briefly explain that extractive activities are actions taken by humans to obtain natural resources, such as minerals, agricultural and industrial products. Ask students to use their cell phones to find an interesting fact about any type of extractive activity. They can consult reliable websites, such as virtual museums, online encyclopedias, or news portals. Encourage them to share the information they find with the class, highlighting what they found most surprising or relevant.

This stage aims to provide students with a practical and interactive experience, connecting the theoretical concepts previously studied with modern and digital activities. By working in groups, students will develop collaboration, research, creativity, and critical reflection skills, as well as use current technologies to deepen their knowledge about extractive activities and their environmental impacts.

Activity 1 - Extractivism in Augmented Reality 🌐

> Duration: 60 - 70 minutes

- Objective: Develop research skills, creativity, and the use of digital technologies to illustrate and understand extractive activities and their environmental impacts.

- Description: Students will create an augmented reality presentation on different types of extractive activities (mineral, agricultural, and industrial) and their environmental impacts. Using AR (Augmented Reality) apps available on their phones, they can illustrate how these activities are conducted and their effects on the environment.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Each group selects a type of extractive activity to research (mineral, agricultural, or industrial).

  • Research information and images about how this activity is conducted and what its environmental impacts are.

  • Use an augmented reality app (such as 'Google Expeditions' or 'Merge Cube') to create an interactive presentation illustrating the selected extractive activity.

  • Create a narrative explaining the process of the extractive activity, from start to finish, including the environmental impacts.

  • Each group must present their creation to the class, showcasing their augmented reality scenes and explaining the associated environmental impacts.

Activity 2 - Environmental Influencers 📲

> Duration: 60 - 70 minutes

- Objective: Promote the conscious use of social networks as an environmental education tool, encouraging reflection on sustainable practices in extractive activities.

- Description: In this activity, students will become digital influencers for a day! They will create content for social media (such as posts, short videos on TikTok, or reels on Instagram) about the importance of sustainability in extractive activities, raising awareness among their followers about negative environmental impacts and how to mitigate them.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Each group selects an extractive activity (mineral, agricultural, or industrial) to focus their content on.

  • Research the environmental impacts of that activity and possible sustainable solutions.

  • Develop a script and create multimedia content (posts, short videos) using their cell phones.

  • Students can use video and image editing apps (such as 'InShot' or 'Canva') to enhance the quality of their content.

  • Each group must share their creation with the class, explaining their choice of theme and the message they intended to convey.

Activity 3 - Sustainable Extraction Game 🎮

> Duration: 60 - 70 minutes

- Objective: Stimulate critical thinking and sustainable decision-making in a playful scenario, understanding the complexities of extractive activities and their environmental impacts.

- Description: Students will participate in a gamified digital game where they take on the role of natural resource managers. The game's objective is to extract resources sustainably, balancing economic benefits with minimizing environmental impacts.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Each group accesses an educational gamification platform (such as 'Kahoot!' or 'Minecraft: Education Edition').

  • Explain the rules and objectives of the game: extract natural resources (such as wood, minerals, or agricultural products) sustainably.

  • Groups will have to make decisions about where and how to extract resources, considering environmental impacts and seeking strategies to mitigate them.

  • During the game, groups will record their strategies and the results obtained.

  • At the end of the game, each group will share their experiences and discuss best practices for sustainable extractivism.

Promote a group discussion with all students, where groups share what they learned while conducting the activities and their conclusions. Follow the suggested outline to introduce this discussion:

  1. Start by thanking everyone for their effort and participation.
  2. Ask each group to present a brief summary of what they learned about the extractive activity they studied, including environmental impacts and possible sustainable solutions they discussed.
  3. Encourage students to ask each other questions and comment on the presentations of other groups, fostering a rich and collaborative discussion.

Duration: 10 - 15 minutes

📚 Purpose: The conclusion stage aims to review the main points covered during the lesson and connect what has been learned to the real world, emphasizing the importance of the topic for daily life. This moment is crucial for consolidating acquired knowledge and motivating students to apply what they learned in their own lives, promoting a conscious and responsible attitude toward the environment.
