Required MaterialsSheets of paper, Pens or pencils, Printed scenarios for discussion, Clock or timer, Computer or tablet for presentation, Whiteboard and markers, Support materials on environmental impacts, Sheets for personal notes

Objectives

Duration: 10 to 15 minutes

The purpose of this phase of the Socio-Emotional Lesson Plan is to introduce students to the topic 'Impacts of Human Activities', highlighting the importance of understanding the effects of human actions on the environment. This phase aims to awaken students' curiosity and interest, preparing them for a deeper and more conscious analysis, while promoting the development of socio-emotional skills, such as self-awareness and social consciousness.

Main Goals

1. Identify the main impacts of human activities on the environment, focusing on water use in agriculture and energy generation.

2. Develop critical awareness about the importance of sustainable practices in the use of natural resources.

Introduction

Duration: 20 to 25 minutes

Emotional Warm-up Activity

Guided Meditation for Focus and Presence

The proposed emotional warm-up activity is Guided Meditation. This practice aims to promote focus, presence, and concentration among students, emotionally and mentally preparing them for the lesson. Guided Meditation involves a series of verbal instructions that help students relax and focus on the present moment, making them more receptive to learning and discussions that will occur during the lesson.

1. Preparation: Ask students to sit comfortably in their chairs, with their backs straight and their feet firmly on the floor. They can close their eyes or keep them slightly open, focusing on a fixed point in the room.

2. Initial Breathing: Guide students to breathe deeply, inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. Do this with them for three cycles of deep breathing.

3. Focus on Breathing: Instruct students to focus only on their natural breathing. Ask them to feel the air entering and leaving their nostrils, observing the movement of their chest and abdomen.

4. Guided Relaxation: Begin to guide them through progressive relaxation, asking them to relax each body part, starting from the feet and moving up to the head. Use a calm and soothing voice.

5. Positive Visualization: Ask students to imagine a tranquil place where they feel safe and happy. It could be a beach, a flowered field, or any other place that brings them peace.

6. Gentle Conclusion: Gradually bring students back to the present, asking them to move their fingers and toes, and slowly open their eyes. Encourage them to carry this feeling of calm and focus into the rest of the lesson.

Content Contextualization

Human activities have a significant impact on the environment, and it is essential to understand how our daily actions can affect the planet. For example, agriculture, which is fundamental for our food supply, uses large amounts of water. The way we manage this water can have serious consequences, such as water scarcity and ecosystem degradation. Similarly, energy generation, which is vital for our daily activities, can cause pollution and contribute to climate change if not done sustainably. Understanding these impacts not only helps us make more responsible decisions but also allows us to develop empathy and social awareness. When we put ourselves in the shoes of those who suffer the consequences of unsustainable practices, we become more motivated to seek solutions and adopt more ecological and responsible behaviors.

Development

Duration: 60 to 75 minutes

Theoretical Framework

Duration: 25 to 30 minutes

1. ### Main Components of the Topic: Impacts of Human Activities

2. Definition of Environmental Impacts: Explain that environmental impacts are changes in the environment caused by human activities, such as agriculture and energy generation.

3. Water Use in Agriculture: Detail that agriculture is one of the largest consumers of water in the world. Discuss irrigation practices and their impacts, such as water scarcity and soil salinization.

4. Energy Generation and Its Impacts: Explain the different forms of energy generation (hydroelectric, thermal, renewable energies) and the associated environmental impacts, such as pollution, deforestation, and climate change.

5. Sustainable Practices: Discuss the importance of sustainable practices in agriculture, such as efficient irrigation and crop rotation, and in energy generation, such as using renewable sources and energy efficiency.

6. Examples and Analogies: Use practical examples, such as wasting water by leaving the tap running, and simple analogies, like comparing Earth to a 'shared home' that everyone needs to care for, to facilitate understanding.

Socioemotional Feedback Activity

Duration: 35 to 40 minutes

🌍 Exploring Human Impacts

In this activity, students will explore and identify the impacts of human activities on the environment through an interactive and collaborative game. They will be divided into groups, and each group will receive a different scenario related to water use in agriculture or energy generation. Students will discuss and note the positive and negative impacts of each scenario, as well as propose sustainable solutions.

1. Group Division: Divide the class into small groups of 4 to 5 students each.

2. Distribution of Scenarios: Give each group a specific scenario related to water use in agriculture or energy generation.

3. Group Discussion: Ask the groups to discuss the positive and negative impacts of their scenario. They should take notes on a piece of paper.

4. Proposing Solutions: After the discussion, each group must propose at least two sustainable solutions to minimize the identified negative impacts.

5. Presentation of Results: Each group will present their observations and solutions to the class. Encourage the class to ask questions and offer additional suggestions.

Group Discussion

To apply the RULER method during group discussion, start by asking students to recognize the emotions they felt during the activity (for example, frustration when identifying negative impacts or excitement when proposing solutions). Then, help them to understand the causes of these emotions by discussing how the severity of environmental problems can generate intense feelings. Encourage students to name the emotions correctly, using suitable emotional vocabulary (for example, 'worried' instead of 'sad'). Guide them to express their emotions appropriately, respecting their classmates' opinions and contributing constructively to the discussion. Finally, help them to regulate their emotions by teaching strategies for dealing with negative feelings and maintaining a positive and proactive attitude towards solving environmental problems.

Conclusion

Duration: 15 to 20 minutes

Emotional Reflection and Regulation

Suggest that students write a paragraph reflecting on the challenges faced during the lesson and how they managed their emotions. Alternatively, promote a group discussion where each student can share their experiences and feelings. Ask how they felt identifying the negative impacts of human activities and proposing sustainable solutions. Encourage them to think about how they could improve their emotion management in future activities.

Objective: The goal of this subsection is to encourage self-assessment and emotional regulation, helping students identify effective strategies to deal with challenging situations. In the context of the lesson, students should recognize the emotions that arose during the identification of environmental impacts and the proposal of solutions, and reflect on how these emotions influenced their actions and interactions.

Closure and A Look Into The Future

Ask students to set a personal goal and an academic goal related to the lesson content. The personal goal may be linked to sustainable practices they can adopt at home or school, such as saving water or energy. The academic goal could be further research on one of the discussed topics or presenting a project on sustainability to the class.

Possible Goal Ideas:

1. Reduce water waste at home.

2. Develop a project on renewable energies to present to the class.

3. Read a book or article on sustainable agricultural practices.

4. Participate in school activities that promote sustainability. Objective: The aim of this subsection is to strengthen students' autonomy and the practical application of learning, aiming for continuity in academic and personal development. By setting personal and academic goals, students are encouraged to apply the knowledge gained practically and develop a commitment to sustainability and responsible practices.
