Objectives

Duration: 10 - 15 minutes

The purpose of this stage is to introduce the topic of multiplication to students, highlighting the importance of basic facts as essential foundations for learning more complex mathematical operations. In addition, this stage aims to prepare students to identify and understand simple multiplications, promoting a solid foundation for their mathematical development.

Main Goals

1. Understand that the basic facts of multiplication are simple multiplications that form the foundation for more complex mathematical operations.

2. Perform basic multiplication operations such as 4x3=12.

Introduction

Duration: 20 - 25 minutes

Emotional Warm-up Activity

Guided Meditation for Focus and Presence

The chosen emotional warm-up activity is Guided Meditation. This practice is a mindfulness technique where students are guided through a series of instructions to achieve a state of relaxation and focus. Guided meditation helps promote presence and concentration, preparing students emotionally and mentally for the lesson in a calm and focused manner.

1. Have students sit comfortably in their chairs, with their feet firmly planted on the ground and their hands resting in their lap.

2. Instruct students to close their eyes and begin to focus on their breathing, inhaling slowly through their nose and exhaling through their mouth.

3. Guide students to take three deep breaths, filling their lungs completely and releasing the air in a controlled manner.

4. Ask students to imagine a quiet place where they feel safe and relaxed. It could be a beach, a forest, or any other place that brings them peace.

5. Suggest that students visualize this place in detail, noticing the colors, sounds, and smells around them.

6. After a few minutes of visualization, ask students to slowly bring their attention back to the classroom, still maintaining the feeling of calm and focus.

7. To finish, ask students to slowly open their eyes and take a deep breath before beginning the lesson.

Content Contextualization

Multiplication is a fundamental skill in mathematics that we use in many situations in our daily lives, such as equally dividing a quantity of objects among friends or calculating how many days are left until a special event. Understanding the basic facts of multiplication not only helps in math lessons but also develops problem-solving skills and self-confidence. By learning multiplication, students also develop the ability to make responsible decisions when solving problems and to work together as a team to find solutions.

Development

Duration: 60 - 75 minutes

Theoretical Framework

Duration: 20 - 25 minutes

1. Definition of Multiplication: Explain that multiplication is a mathematical operation that combines equal groups of objects. For example, 4x3 means having 4 groups of 3 objects each, totaling 12 objects.

2. Multiplication Terms: Introduce the terms 'factors' and 'product'. The numbers being multiplied are called factors, and the result is called the product.

3. Properties of Multiplication: Highlight the properties of multiplication, such as the commutative property (the order of factors does not change the product, e.g., 4x3 is equal to 3x4) and the distributive property (multiplying a number by a sum is the same as multiplying each term of the sum by that number and then adding the results).

4. Multiplication Techniques: Introduce simple multiplication techniques, such as using the multiplication table, counting in equal groups, and using repeated addition (e.g., 4x3 is the same as 4+4+4).

5. Examples and Practice: Provide practical examples and ask students to solve problems like 2x5, 3x4, 5x5, etc. Use concrete objects or drawings to help with visualization.

Socioemotional Feedback Activity

Duration: 35 - 40 minutes

Multiplication Pairs Game

This activity involves a memory game where students need to find pairs of cards that correspond to basic multiplication facts (e.g., 4x3 and 12). The goal is to reinforce knowledge of basic multiplication facts in a playful and interactive way.

1. Divide the class into small groups.

2. Distribute a set of memory cards to each group. Each set should contain pairs of multiplication (e.g., one card with '4x3' and another with '12').

3. Ask students to shuffle the cards and place them face down on the table.

4. Students take turns turning over two cards at a time. If they find a matching pair (e.g., '4x3' and '12'), they keep the pair and earn a point.

5. If the cards do not match, they should be turned back down, and the next student tries to find a pair.

6. The game continues until all pairs are found. The group with the most pairs at the end wins.

Group Discussion

After the activity, gather students for a group discussion. Recognize: Ask students how they felt during the game. Were they anxious, happy, frustrated? Understand: Explore the causes of those emotions. Was it difficult to find the pairs? Did they feel pressured by time or competition? Label: Help students correctly name the emotions they felt. Express: Encourage them to express these emotions appropriately, sharing their experiences with classmates. Regulate: Discuss emotional regulation strategies, such as deep breathing to stay calm or working as a team to reduce pressure.

Conclusion

Duration: 15 - 20 minutes

Emotional Reflection and Regulation

After the multiplication activity, suggest students reflect on the challenges faced during the lesson. They can write or discuss in groups questions such as: 'What was the hardest part of the activity?', 'How did you feel when you couldn't find a pair?', and 'What did you do to calm down or keep trying?'. Encourage them to share their answers and think about the strategies they used to manage their emotions.

Objective: The objective of this subsection is to encourage self-assessment and emotional regulation, helping students identify effective strategies for dealing with challenging situations. By reflecting on their experiences, students can develop greater self-awareness and improve their self-control and responsible decision-making skills.

Closure and A Look Into The Future

To conclude the lesson, ask students to set personal and academic goals related to the content of multiplication. For example, they may establish the goal of memorizing the multiplication table up to number 5 or practicing multiplication at home for 10 minutes every day. Encourage them to write these goals in their notebooks and share them with the class.

Possible Goal Ideas:

1. Memorize the multiplication table up to number 5.

2. Practice multiplication at home for 10 minutes a day.

3. Help a peer understand multiplication.

4. Apply multiplication in everyday situations, such as counting objects. Objective: The objective of this subsection is to strengthen students' autonomy and the practical application of learning, aiming for continuity in academic and personal development. By setting clear goals, students can focus on their progress and feel motivated to achieve their objectives, promoting a sense of responsibility and accomplishment.
