The purpose of this stage is to provide students with a clear understanding of what will be addressed during the class, aligning expectations and focusing on the skills that will be developed. Introduction

Duration: 15 to 20 minutes

Emotional Warm-up Activity

Mindfulness for Focus and Concentration

The Mindfulness technique consists of focusing attention on the present, allowing students to be fully present and concentrated in the current moment. This helps improve attention and reduce anxiety, creating an environment conducive to learning.

1. Ask students to sit comfortably in their chairs, with their feet on the ground and hands resting in their laps.

2. Instruct them to close their eyes or gently look at a fixed point ahead.

3. Guide them to concentrate on their breathing, feeling the air enter and exit through their nostrils.

4. Suggest that students take a deep breath, inhaling through their nose for four seconds, holding the air for four seconds, and slowly exhaling through their mouth for six seconds.

5. After a few deep breaths, ask them to return to a natural breathing rhythm and observe the sensations in their bodies without trying to change them.

6. Explain that if thoughts arise, they should simply observe them and let them go, returning their focus to their breath.

7. Continue guiding the practice for about five minutes, reinforcing the idea of being present and focused in the moment.

8. Conclude the activity by asking students to slowly open their eyes and return their attention to the classroom, ready to start the lesson with more focus and presence.

Understanding the difference between vertebrate and invertebrate animals is fundamental not only for the study of biology but also helps us appreciate the diversity and complexity of life around us. 2. Definition of Vertebrates: Vertebrates are animals that have an internal skeleton (endoskeleton) and a backbone. Examples include mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish.

3. Definition of Invertebrates: Invertebrates are animals that do not have a backbone. Many have an external skeleton (exoskeleton) such as arthropods. Examples include insects, arachnids, crustaceans, mollusks, annelids, cnidarians, and echinoderms.

4. Comparison between Internal and External Skeleton: Detail the differences between the internal skeleton (endoskeleton) of vertebrates and the external skeleton (exoskeleton) that many invertebrates have. Use analogies such as comparing the internal skeleton to an internal support structure and the exoskeleton to an external armor of protection.

5. Examples and Analogies: Mammals: Explain that they have bones and a backbone, examples include humans, dogs, and cats. Insects: Have exoskeletons, examples include ants and butterflies. Fish: Explain that they have an internal skeleton and are vertebrates, examples include sharks and salmon. Mollusks: Like octopuses and squids, which are invertebrates and do not have a rigid skeleton. Use everyday analogies, such as comparing a crab (invertebrate with exoskeleton) to a soldier in armor, and a dog (vertebrate) to a steel structure inside a building.

Socioemotional Feedback Activity

Duration: 30 to 35 minutes

Classification and Reflection on Animals

Students will work in groups to classify a list of animals into vertebrates and invertebrates and reflect on their emotions when interacting with different animals. This activity aims to develop both biological knowledge as well as socio-emotional skills such as empathy and self-awareness.

1. Divide the students into groups of 4 to 5 people.

2. Distribute a list of different animals to each group. The list should include animals such as dogs, cats, sharks, ants, butterflies, octopuses, etc.

3. Ask the groups to classify each animal as vertebrate or invertebrate and justify their classifications based on the characteristics discussed in theory.

4. After classifying the animals, ask the groups to discuss how they feel about each animal. Ask: 'What emotions do you feel when seeing or interacting with each of these animals?'

5. Each group should write down their classifications and emotional reflections on a sheet of paper.

6. After the group discussion, each group will present their classifications and emotional reflections to the class.

After each group's presentation, apply the RULER method to guide the group discussion: Recognize: Ask students to recognize and identify the emotions that arose during the activity. For example, 'How did you feel thinking about an ant versus a dog?' Understand: Encourage students to understand the causes of these emotions by discussing why they feel a certain way towards certain animals. For example, 'Why do you think you feel more comfortable with a dog than with a spider?' Label: Help students to accurately name these emotions. For example, 'Do you feel scared when you see a spider? What other words might describe that emotion?' Express: Guide students on how to express these emotions appropriately. For example, 'How can we communicate our feelings about these animals in a way that is respectful and understanding?' Regulate: Discuss strategies to regulate these emotions, especially in situations where they may encounter these animals in real life. For example, 'What can you do to calm down if you encounter a spider?'

Conclusion

Duration: 15 to 20 minutes

Emotional Reflection and Regulation

Ask students to write a paragraph reflecting on the challenges they faced during the class and how they managed their emotions throughout the activities. Alternatively, promote a group discussion where students can share their experiences and feelings. Encourage them to be honest and think about specific moments when they had to regulate their emotions, such as during the classification of animals or when presenting their emotional reflections to peers.

Objective: The objective of this subsection is to encourage students to self-assess their emotional management abilities and identify effective strategies for dealing with challenging situations. This helps promote self-awareness and self-control, which are essential for socio-emotional development, applied in the context of the lesson on vertebrate and invertebrate animals.

Closure and A Look Into The Future

To conclude the lesson, ask students to set personal and academic goals related to the content of the lesson.
