Objectives

The purpose of this stage of the Socioemotional Lesson Plan is to establish a solid foundation of understanding regarding the main objectives of the lesson. By clearly defining the skills to be developed, such as knowing how to navigate and provide directions on a map, students will be better prepared to engage effectively in subsequent activities. This stage also helps align expectations and create a focused and directed learning environment.

Main Goals

1. Develop the ability to navigate and provide accurate directions on a map.

2. Empower students to indicate the step-by-step route to a place using a map.

Introduction

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

Emotional Warm-up Activity

Guided Meditation: Find Your Center

The chosen emotional warm-up activity is 'Guided Meditation'. This practice involves verbal guidance to help students enter a state of relaxation and focus. Guided meditation is an effective technique for promoting presence, concentration, and mental calmness, preparing students for the lesson.

1. Ask students to settle comfortably in their chairs, with their feet flat on the floor and their hands resting on their knees.

2. Ask them to close their eyes and begin to focus on their breathing, inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth slowly.

3. Guide students to pay attention to how the air enters and exits their lungs, feeling the movement of their abdomen and chest.

4. After a few moments, lead them to imagine a tranquil place, such as a serene beach or a blooming field, where they feel safe and at peace.

5. Continue guiding the visualization, describing the environment in detail and encouraging them to explore this place with all their senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch).

6. After about 5 minutes of visualization, ask students to gradually return their focus to their breathing.

7. Instruct them to open their eyes slowly when they feel ready, bringing the sense of calm and focus into the classroom.

Content Contextualization

The theme of location is fundamental not only for mathematics but also for everyday life. Knowing how to navigate and provide directions on a map are essential skills that can be applied in various situations, such as planning a trip, finding an address, or even guiding someone who is lost. Additionally, these skills help develop spatial awareness and the ability to solve practical problems efficiently.

In the emotional context, the ability to navigate can also be seen as a metaphor for self-knowledge and responsible decision-making. Understanding where we are and where we want to go, both physically and emotionally, is crucial for navigating life in a balanced and conscious way. Thus, by learning about navigation, students are also strengthening their socioemotional competencies, such as self-awareness and the ability to make informed decisions.

1. Maps and Geographic Coordinates:

2. Definition: A map is a graphical representation of a geographic area. Geographic coordinates are a system of imaginary lines (latitude and longitude) used to determine any point on the Earth's surface.

3. Example: Show the world map and highlight the lines of the Equator and the Meridian of Greenwich.

4. Latitude and Longitude:

5. Definition: Latitude is the measurement in degrees north or south of the Equator. Longitude is the measurement in degrees east or west of the Meridian of Greenwich.

6. Example: Explain how to find the latitude and longitude of a specific city, such as São Paulo.

7. Map Scales:

8. Definition: Scale is the relation between distance on the map and real distance on the ground.

9. Example: Demonstrate how to use a map's scale to calculate the distance between two points.

10. Cartesian Coordinate Systems:

11. Definition: A Cartesian coordinate system uses two axes (x and y) to determine the position of points on a plane.

12. Example: Show an example of a Cartesian coordinate system applied to a city map.

13. Orientation and Directions:

14. Definition: Orientation is the ability to position oneself and determine directions in a space. Directions are the cardinal and intermediate points (North, South, East, West, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest).

15. Example: Use a compass or a compass app to demonstrate how to identify directions in the environment.

Socioemotional Feedback Activity

Duration: (35 - 40 minutes)

Exploring the City Map

Students will work in groups to find specific locations on a city map provided by the teacher. The activity aims to apply theoretical knowledge in practice and develop navigation and direction skills.

1. Divide the class into groups of 3 to 4 students.

2. Distribute a city map to each group.

3. Provide a list of locations that students must find on the map (schools, hospitals, parks, etc.).

4. Ask students to identify and mark these locations on the map using geographic coordinates and the provided scale.

5. Each group must then create a route of directions to get to these locations from a predetermined starting point.

6. The groups should present their routes and explanations to the class.

Group Discussion

After the activity, lead a group discussion using the RULER method:

Recognize: Ask students to share how they felt during the activity. Were they confident, confused, excited? Encourage them to recognize these emotions.

Understand: Ask students why they think they felt these emotions. Was it due to the difficulty of the task, group collaboration, or some other factor?

Label: Help students accurately label the emotions they felt. For example, 'frustrated', 'enthusiastic', 'anxious'.

Express: Discuss appropriate ways to express these emotions. How could they have better communicated their feelings during the activity?

Regulate: Encourage students to think of strategies to regulate their emotions in the future. What could they do differently to better manage their emotions in similar activities?

This discussion helps students develop self-knowledge skills, self-control, and social skills while reflecting on the activity performed.

Conclusion

Duration: (20 - 25 minutes)

Emotional Reflection and Regulation

Ask students to write a brief paragraph reflecting on the challenges they faced during the lesson and how they managed their emotions. Alternatively, lead a group discussion where each student can share their experiences and feelings. Encourage them to think about what made them feel challenged and how they reacted emotionally. Ask how they could improve their emotional management in similar future situations.

Objective: The objective of this subsection is to encourage self-assessment and emotional regulation, helping students identify effective strategies for dealing with challenging situations. By reflecting on their emotions and behaviors, students develop greater self-awareness and learn to better regulate their emotional responses, promoting emotional maturity and improvement of social skills.

Closure and A Look Into The Future

Explain to students the importance of setting personal and academic goals related to the lesson content. Ask each student to write a personal goal and an academic goal they would like to achieve in the coming weeks. These goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).

Possible Goal Ideas:

1. Personal Goal: Improve the ability to navigate using maps, applying this knowledge in everyday situations, such as planning routes for outings with friends or family.

2. Academic Goal: Demonstrate proficiency in interpreting and using geographic coordinates in future activities, achieving a minimum score of 80% on assessments related to the topic. Objective: The objective of this subsection is to strengthen students' autonomy and the practical application of learning, encouraging them to continue developing their academic and personal skills. By setting clear goals, students become more motivated and focused, promoting continuity in their academic and personal development.
