Assumptions: This Active Lesson Plan assumes: a 100-minute class, prior student study with both the Book and the start of Project development, and that only one activity (among the three suggested) will be chosen to be conducted during the class, as each activity is designed to take up a significant portion of the available time.

Objectives

2. If a farmer has 4 boxes of eggs, and each box contains 12 eggs, how many eggs does he have in total? How would you use multiplication to find the answer?

Contextualization

- Description: In this playful activity, students will be divided into groups of up to five members, and each group will represent an event organizing company. They will have to plan a party where they need to multiply and divide resources, such as tables, chairs, food, and drinks, to meet the needs of special guests.

- Instructions:

  • Form groups of up to five students.

  • Distribute to each group a list of items and services to be multiplied and divided among the guests.

  • Each group must draw a map of the party, distributing resources fairly.

  • Groups should calculate how many tables and chairs are needed to accommodate a certain number of guests, using multiplication.

  • For division, they should calculate how many guests will have access to each type of food and drink available.

  • Conclude with each group presenting their planning and justifying the decisions made in the multiplication and division operations.

Activity 2 - The Architect's Challenge

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Utilize multiplication and division to plan and build a city, promoting the use of mathematics in real-world situations.
