Assumptions: This Active Lesson Plan assumes: a 100-minute class, prior student study with both the Book and the start of Project development, and that only one activity (among the three suggested) will be chosen to be conducted during the class, as each activity is designed to take up a significant portion of the available time.

Objectives

Duration: (5 - 10 minutes)

The objectives stage aims to establish clear learning goals for students, ensuring they are aligned with the main concepts to be explored during the lesson. By defining specific goals, the teacher guides students on what is expected for them to learn and how they can effectively apply prior knowledge about agreement and the accent grave, facilitating focus and active participation in proposed activities.

Main Objectives:

1. Empower students to identify and correctly apply verbal and nominal agreement in texts, according to the formal standard of the Portuguese language.

2. Develop the ability to recognize and employ the use of the accent grave in various situations, reinforcing understanding of its rules and exceptions.

Side Objectives:

  1. Encourage critical analysis of texts to identify and correct agreement and accent grave errors.

Introduction

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The introduction serves to engage students with the content they have already studied, using problem situations that make them think critically and apply prior knowledge practically. Furthermore, the contextualization seeks to show the relevance of studying the accent grave and agreement, not just as grammatical rules but as essential tools for effective communication in various contexts, thus encouraging the application of learning in real writing and speaking situations.

Problem-Based Situations

1. Imagine you are reviewing a text for a competition and need to correct the use of the accent grave and agreement in several passages. How would you identify and correct the errors without resorting to a dictionary or grammar book at that moment?

2. Consider a situation where you need to write a formal email to a hierarchical superior, where it is crucial to use the accent grave and agreement correctly. What would be the specific rules and best practices you would apply?

Contextualization

Understanding and using the accent grave and agreement correctly is important not only for academic and professional writing but also for everyday communication. For instance, by understanding when to use 'à' or 'a' correctly, we can avoid ambiguities and ensure clarity in communication. Additionally, knowledge of these aspects of the Portuguese language can be crucial in formal situations, such as writing official documents or contacting clients and business partners.

Development

Duration: (75 - 80 minutes)

The Development stage is designed for students to practically and playfully apply the concepts of agreement and the accent grave learned previously, through group activities that simulate real situations of error and correction. This method not only solidifies the understanding of grammatical rules but also promotes teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity skills. Activities are planned to be interactive and engaging, encouraging the active participation of each student in the learning process.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended to carry out only one of the suggested activities

Activity 1 - Agreement and Accent Grave Detectives

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Develop the skill to identify and correct errors in agreement and the accent grave in a playful and collaborative context, reinforcing learning of grammatical rules.

- Description: In this activity, students will be divided into groups of up to 5 people. Each group will receive a set of mixed sentences, some correct and others with errors related to agreement and the accent grave. They will 'investigate' each sentence, identify the errors, and correct them, justifying the corrections based on the studied rules.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Distribute a sheet with mixed sentences to each group.

  • Students should read the sentences, discuss in groups, and identify the errors of agreement and the accent grave.

  • Each error must be corrected and justified in writing next to the sentence.

  • After correcting, each group will present one of the corrected sentences to the class, explaining the error and the correction made.

Activity 2 - Sentence Builders

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Practice the correct use of agreement and the accent grave in a sentence-building context, stimulating creativity and collaboration among students.

- Description: Students, organized into groups, will receive cards with words and expressions that require the correct use of agreement and the accent grave. The challenge will be to form the highest number of correct sentences in a set time, using all elements from the cards.

- Instructions:

  • Form groups of up to 5 students.

  • Give each group a set of cards with words and expressions.

  • Groups must use the cards to form complete sentences, correctly applying agreement and the accent grave.

  • Set a time (for example, 30 minutes) for groups to build as many correct sentences as they can.

  • At the end, each group will present their sentences, explaining the application of agreement and the accent grave in each one.

Activity 3 - Accent Grave and Agreement on Stage

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Apply knowledge of the accent grave and agreement in a creative and dynamic way, promoting the retention of rules in a pleasurable learning context.

- Description: In this activity, students will create and perform short plays in which the dialogues must contain the correct use of the accent grave and agreement. Each group will receive a scenario and should write and present a dialogue that demonstrates understanding and application of the studied rules.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Assign each group a different scenario for their play.

  • Students should write a short dialogue that fits the scenario, correctly using the accent grave and agreement.

  • Each group will rehearse their play, focusing on grammatical accuracy.

  • Each group will present their play to the class, which will evaluate not only the performance but also the correct use of the accent grave and agreement.

Feedback

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The purpose of this stage is to allow students to articulate and reflect on what they learned during the practical activities. Group discussion helps consolidate knowledge, allowing students to verbalize their understandings and hear the perspectives of peers. This not only reinforces individual learning but also promotes a collaborative learning environment where students can learn from one another and develop critical and effective communication skills.

Group Discussion

After carrying out the activities, organize a group discussion with all students. Begin the discussion with a brief introduction, highlighting the importance of reflecting on the practical learning of the rules of the accent grave and agreement. Ask each group to share their main discoveries and challenges faced during the activities. Encourage them to discuss the strategies they used to correct the errors and how they plan to apply this knowledge in future situations. This moment serves not only to consolidate learning but also for students to learn from each other, enriching the group's understanding as a whole.

Key Questions

1. What were the main challenges in correcting errors of the accent grave and agreement during the activities?

2. How did group collaboration help clarify doubts and enhance understanding of grammatical rules?

3. How do you plan to apply knowledge of the accent grave and agreement in your future writing?

Conclusion

Duration: (5 - 10 minutes)

The purpose of the Conclusion stage is to consolidate students' learning, ensuring that they can recap and integrate the knowledge acquired during the lesson. Additionally, the Conclusion serves to reinforce the practical importance of the concepts of agreement and the accent grave, showing how these rules are applied in everyday life and in formal contexts. This final reflection helps students to value and internalize the content, preparing them to use these language skills in future communication situations.

Summary

To conclude, let us revisit the main concepts covered today. We discussed in-depth verbal and nominal agreement, highlighting the main rules and exceptions, and explored the correct use of the accent grave, identifying the situations in which it occurs and the pitfalls that may arise. Through practical activities such as 'Agreement and Accent Grave Detectives', 'Sentence Builders', and 'Accent Grave and Agreement on Stage', students were able to apply these concepts in varied contexts, solidifying their learning.

Theory Connection

Today's lesson effectively connected theory and practice. We started with a review of theoretical concepts, ensuring that students understood the foundations of agreement and the accent grave. Subsequently, through interactive activities, they applied this knowledge in real situations, simulating text corrections and creating dialogues, which strengthened their understanding of the rules and their practical applicability.

Closing

Understanding and correctly applying agreement and the accent grave is vital not only in academic contexts but also in professional and everyday situations. The ability to communicate clearly and correctly in our language is essential. This knowledge enables students to improve their writing and interpretation skills, as well as contribute to developing effective communication in all areas of life.
