Objectives

Duration: (10 - 15 minutes)

The purpose of this stage is to prepare students for understanding precision sports, providing a solid foundation of technical and emotional knowledge. By describing the characteristics and rules of the sports, and by recognizing and naming the involved emotions, students will be better equipped to engage in practical activities and develop their socio-emotional skills throughout the class.

Main Goals

1. Introduce students to precision sports, highlighting their main characteristics and basic rules.

2. Develop the ability to recognize and name the emotions associated with the practice and learning of precision sports.

Introduction

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

Emotional Warm-up Activity

Guided Meditation for Precision Sports

The chosen emotional warm-up activity is Guided Meditation. This practice is known for promoting focus, presence, and concentration among students, mentally preparing them for subsequent activities.

1. Preparing the Environment: Ask students to sit comfortably in their chairs or on the floor, with their backs straight and feet flat on the ground. Make sure the environment is calm and quiet.

2. Initial Instructions: Briefly explain that the guided meditation will help calm the mind and increase focus. Ask students to close their eyes and take a few deep breaths.

3. Starting the Meditation: Begin guiding students through a visualization: ask them to imagine they are in an open field, with a gentle breeze and the sound of birds in the background. Lead them to feel the serenity of the environment and relax each part of their body, starting from their feet and moving up to their head.

4. Focus on Breathing: Instruct students to focus on their breathing, inhaling deeply through their nose and exhaling slowly through their mouth. Encourage them to concentrate on the movement of air entering and leaving their body.

5. Internal Reflection: Encourage students to reflect on how they feel in the moment and to recognize any present emotions without judging them. Ask them to accept these emotions and let them flow.

6. Closing: After about 5-7 minutes, ask students to slowly begin moving again, opening their eyes and returning to the present. Encourage them to carry this feeling of calm and focus into the next activity.

Content Contextualization

Precision sports, such as darts, golf, bowling, and archery, are activities that require a high level of concentration, coordination, and emotional control. Imagine a golfer about to make a crucial shot: they need to control their nerves, maintain focus, and trust their skills to achieve a good result. Similarly, an archer must be fully aware of their breathing and posture when aiming at the target. These situations illustrate how emotions and the mind play a crucial role in the performance of these sports.

By learning about these sports, students not only develop physical skills, but also enhance their ability to recognize and manage their emotions, make responsible decisions under pressure, and work collaboratively. Understanding the importance of emotional control and concentration in these contexts can motivate students to commit more to activities and apply these skills in other areas of life.

Development

Duration: (60 - 75 minutes)

Theoretical Framework

Duration: (20 - 25 minutes)

1. Introduction to Precision Sports: Precision sports are those that require a high level of concentration, fine motor coordination, and emotional control to achieve a specific goal with accuracy. Examples include darts, croquet, curling, golf, billiards, bowling, shooting sports, and archery.

2. Darts: A game in which players throw small pointed darts at a fixed target on the wall. The goal is to hit specific areas of the target to score points.

3. Croquet: A sport where players use mallets to hit balls through arches set up on a grass field, aiming to complete a defined course.

4. Curling: A game in which players slide granite stones over a sheet of ice toward a marked target, using brooms to influence the path and speed of the stones.

5. Golf: A sport in which players use clubs to hit a ball into holes spread across a course, in the fewest strokes possible.

6. Billiards: A table game that involves using a cue to hit balls into pockets located at the corners and sides of the table, following specific rules to score.

7. Bowling: A sport in which players roll a ball down a lane to knock down a set of pins arranged in a triangle at the end of the lane.

8. Shooting Sports: A sport that involves using firearms or air guns to hit targets accurately, at various distances and positions.

9. Archery: A sport where players use a bow to shoot arrows at a target, aiming for the center to score more points.

10. Importance of Emotional Control: In all these sports, emotional control is crucial. Staying calm and focused can make the difference between good and poor performance. For example, an archer needs to control their breathing and remain calm before releasing the arrow.

Socioemotional Feedback Activity

Duration: (35 - 45 minutes)

Miniature Precision Sports Practice

In this activity, students will practice simplified versions of the precision sports discussed, using adapted materials for the school environment. The activity aims to develop motor skills, concentration, and emotional control while promoting social interaction and responsible decision-making.

1. Preparing the Environment: Arrange the classroom or gym space to have specific areas for each precision sport. Use materials like toy darts, ping-pong balls, toy bows and arrows, etc.

2. Group Division: Divide students into small groups and assign each group a sport station. Explain that each group will have a set amount of time to practice at each station before rotating.

3. Demonstration: At each station, briefly demonstrate how to carry out the activity. For example, show how to throw darts, how to hit ping-pong balls into plastic cups, etc.

4. Supervised Practice: Allow students to practice at each station, offering guidance and feedback as needed. Encourage them to focus on the task and recognize their feelings during practice.

5. Station Rotation: After a set time (approximately 5-10 minutes per station), instruct groups to rotate to the next station, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to try each sport.

6. Final Reflection: After practice, gather students in a circle for a group discussion about the experience, focusing on how they felt during practice and how they managed their emotions.

Group Discussion

To apply the RULER method during the group discussion, start by asking students to recognize the emotions they felt during practice (e.g., nervousness, excitement, frustration). Encourage them to understand the causes of these emotions, such as the difficulty of the sport or the pressure to succeed. Help students to name these emotions correctly, promoting a richer emotional vocabulary.

Then, discuss appropriate ways to express these emotions, reinforcing the importance of clear and respectful communication. Finally, work with students on strategies to regulate these emotions, such as breathing techniques, pauses for reflection, and mutual encouragement. This process will not only help students manage their emotions better but also strengthen group cohesion and their ability to collaborate effectively.

Conclusion

Duration: (20 - 25 minutes)

Emotional Reflection and Regulation

Ask students to sit in a circle and provide each with paper and a pen. Instruct them to reflect on the challenges they faced during the practice of precision sports. They should write about how they felt at specific moments, such as when missing a target or hitting a difficult spot. Following the writing, lead a group discussion where each student can share their experiences and emotions. Encourage them to talk about the strategies they used to handle their feelings and what techniques could improve. This reflection can help students better recognize and regulate their emotions in future situations.

Objective: The objective of this subsection is to encourage self-assessment and emotional regulation, helping students identify effective strategies for dealing with challenging situations. By reflecting on their experiences and sharing with the group, students can develop greater awareness of their emotions and learn new constructive ways to manage them.

Closure and A Look Into The Future

Conduct a brief goal-setting activity with students. Ask them to think of one personal goal and one academic goal related to precision sports and emotional control. For example, a personal goal could be practicing deep breathing before a challenging activity, while an academic goal could be learning more about the history of a specific precision sport. Encourage them to write these goals down and share them with a classmate, fostering an exchange of ideas and mutual support.

Possible Goal Ideas:

1. Practice deep breathing before challenging activities.

2. Learn more about the history of a specific precision sport.

3. Improve concentration during the practice of precision sports.

4. Develop the ability to recognize and name emotions in different situations.

5. Enhance the ability to work as a team and support peers during activities. Objective: The objective of this subsection is to strengthen students' autonomy and the practical application of learning, aiming for continuity in academic and personal development. By setting personal and academic goals, students are encouraged to apply the skills they have learned during the class to other areas of their lives, promoting continuous and sustainable growth.
