The purpose of this stage of the Socioemotional Lesson Plan is to provide a solid foundation on the topic 'Water and Community' and to highlight the importance of water in different contexts. This will enable students to develop an initial understanding of the concepts that will be explored during the lesson, facilitating the connection between academic content and socioemotional skills.

Main Goals

1. Understand the various uses of water for humans, both in urban and rural areas.

2. Analyze the waste generated by water use and the impact of sewage coverage on public health.

Water Mindfulness

1. Ask students to sit comfortably in their chairs, with their feet touching the ground and their hands resting on their thighs.

2. Request them to close their eyes and begin to focus on their breathing, inhaling slowly through the nose and exhaling through the mouth.

3. Instruct students to visualize a source of clean, crystal-clear water. Ask them to imagine the sound of flowing water and feel the calm it conveys.

4. Guide students to think about the importance of water in their daily lives, from drinking a glass of water to taking a shower or watering plants.

5. After a few minutes, ask them to slowly open their eyes and briefly share how they felt during the visualization.

Content Contextualization

Water is an essential resource for life and is present in almost all human activities, from direct consumption to personal hygiene and agriculture. In cities, it is treated and distributed through a complex system that ensures its quality and availability. In the countryside, it is used to irrigate crops and raise animals. In both contexts, inadequate management of water and sewage can have serious consequences for public health and the environment.

For example, in many communities around the world, the lack of basic sanitation and access to drinking water results in diseases and contamination. This reality prompts us to reflect on the importance of caring for water resources and ensuring universal access to clean water. By exploring this theme, students will be able to develop not only a scientific understanding but also a social and emotional awareness of the impact of water on their lives and the lives of others.

1. Definition and Importance of Water: Water is an essential resource for life on Earth, fundamental to the survival of all living beings. It is used for drinking, cooking, personal hygiene, agriculture, and many other activities.

2. Water Cycle: Explain the hydrological cycle, including the processes of evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and infiltration. Give examples of how water moves through different compartments of the Earth (atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere).

3. Use of Water in Cities: Detail the main uses of water in urban areas, such as public supply, sanitation, industry, and recreation. Explain how water is treated and distributed in cities and the importance of an efficient sewage system.

4. Use of Water in the Countryside: Describe how water is used in rural areas, mainly in agriculture and livestock. Explain the importance of irrigation for crops and the use of water for drinking and animal hygiene.

5. Impact of Waste on Health: Discuss the types of waste generated by water use, such as domestic, industrial, and agricultural waste. Explain how the lack of proper treatment of these wastes can lead to contamination of water sources and cause diseases.

6. Basic Sanitation: Explain what basic sanitation is and its importance for public health. Give examples of sewage treatment systems and their role in disease prevention.

Socioemotional Feedback Activity

Duration: (35 - 40 minutes)

Mapping Water in the Community

Students will create a map of their community, highlighting water sources, uses of water, and waste disposal locations. The activity aims to connect theoretical content with local reality, promoting social and emotional awareness about water use and management.

1. Divide students into groups of 4 or 5.

2. Provide each group with a blank map of the community (or ask them to sketch one).

3. Ask them to identify and mark the water sources (rivers, lakes, wells, etc.) on the map.

4. Request them to mark the main uses of water (homes, schools, industries, farms, etc.).

5. Guide students to identify and mark the waste disposal locations (sewage treatment plants, dumpsites, etc.).

6. Encourage the groups to discuss and note the possible consequences of poor management of water and waste for the community.

7. After creating the maps, ask each group to present their findings to the class.

After the presentations, lead a group discussion using the RULER method.
