The purpose of this stage is to promote active and engaging learning, where students use digital technologies to explore the role of music in cultures and societies. Through practical activities, students become protagonists in the learning process, applying and contextualizing previous knowledge creatively and collaboratively.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended that only one of the suggested activities be carried out

Activity 1 - 🎧 Interactive Cultural Playlist

> Duration: 60 - 70 minutes

- Objective: Understand cultural diversity and the role of music as an integrative element in different social and historical contexts.

- Description: Students will create playlists on Spotify based on different cultures and eras. Each group must choose a cultural theme (such as the 80s in Brazil, African folk music, or modern Korean pop) and create a playlist of 10 representative songs. The playlist must be accompanied by descriptions explaining the importance of each song to the selected culture.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Each group must choose a specific cultural theme.

  • Using their phones or computers, students will create a Spotify playlist with 10 representative songs of the chosen theme.

  • For each song in the playlist, students must write a brief description (3-4 sentences) explaining the importance of the music in the selected culture.

  • Encourage students to use reliable internet sources for their research and descriptions.

  • In the end, groups must share their playlists and descriptions with the class, discussing the choices made and what they learned about the relationship between music and culture.

Activity 2 - 📱 Musical Influencer Challenge

> Duration: 60 - 70 minutes

- Objective: Explore the integration of music in society and develop digital communication and creativity skills while producing content for social media.

- Description: Students will become digital influencers for a day, creating content for social media about the importance of music in different social contexts. Each group must create posts for Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube explaining the relevance of music in different historical moments or important cultural movements.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Each group must choose a cultural movement or significant historical period where music played an important role.

  • Students must plan and create multimedia content (short video, picture and text post, stories) that highlights the importance of music in that context. The content may include, for example, song analyses, artistic representations, simulated interviews, among others.

  • Students must use their phones to record and edit the videos/posts.

  • At the end of the activity, each group must present its content to the class, explaining the creation process and the message they wanted to convey.

  • Encourage the class to comment and provide constructive feedback on the presented content.

Activity 3 - 🎮 Gamification: The Soundtrack of History

> Duration: 60 - 70 minutes

- Objective: Encourage critical thinking and the ability to associate music with historical and cultural contexts, while creating a playful and interactive learning environment.

- Description: Students will participate in an educational game that involves creating soundtracks for historical moments. Using an interactive platform (such as Kahoot or Quizizz), the teacher will present different historical events, and students, in groups, will have to choose and justify which songs or musical styles best represent those events.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Explain the rules of the game and the platform that will be used (Kahoot, Quizizz, etc.).

  • The teacher will present different historical events with a brief description. Events may include the French Revolution, the Civil Rights movement in the USA, among others.

  • Using their phones or computers, each group will choose a song or musical style that they believe best represents each presented event.

  • Each group must justify their choices, explaining how the selected music relates to the historical event.

  • Score the answers based on the coherence and creativity of the justifications presented.

  • At the end, discuss with the class the different songs chosen and the variations in cultural perceptions of music throughout history.

Feedback

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The purpose of this stage is to consolidate the learning from practical activities through reflection and sharing of experiences. The group discussion promotes the exchange of knowledge and the collective construction of understandings about the function of music in cultural formation and social integration. The 360° feedback encourages the development of collaboration and communication skills, as well as providing valuable insights for students' personal and academic growth.

Group Discussion

To start the group discussion, ask each group to share the main conclusions and learnings from their activities. Encourage students to reflect on the cultural differences highlighted in their playlists, the challenges faced during the creation of content for social media, and the justifications given for the soundtracks of historical events. Suggest that they use specific examples from their activities to enrich the discussion.

Reflections

1. What were the biggest surprises or discoveries you made about the function of music in different cultures? 2. How does music help build or reinforce a cultural identity? 3. How do social media amplify or change the way we consume and perceive music today?

360° Feedback

Instruct students to perform a 360° feedback within their groups. Each member should share a positive observation about the contributions of others and a suggestion for improvement. Guide the class to ensure that feedback is constructive, respectful, and specific, focusing on observable behaviors and actions. It may be helpful to remind students to use the formula 'I liked... because...' for praise and 'I suggest... because...' for improvements.
