Objectives

Duration: 10 to 15 minutes

The purpose of this stage is to establish a solid foundation for understanding the relationship between art and technology. By defining clear objectives, students will have a specific direction for their practical activities and discussions, facilitating a more focused and effective learning experience.

Main Objectives

1. Understand the integration between art and technology, identifying the new artistic approaches made possible by digital resources.

2. Explore practical examples of digital art, such as interactive media, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR).

3. Develop critical skills to analyze digital artworks, considering technical and creative aspects.

Introduction

Duration: 15 to 20 minutes

The purpose of this stage is to contextualize students with the theme 'Art and Technology', allowing them to make connections with recent information and feel engaged from the start of the lesson. By utilizing their own research, students become protagonists in the learning process, enriching the debate and laying the groundwork for more in-depth practical activities.

Warming Up

To start the lesson on 'Art and Technology', briefly explain how technology has transformed artistic practice over the years. Highlight that digital art encompasses interactive media, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and other innovative forms. Then, ask students to use their phones to find an interesting fact about the integration of art and technology. Give them a few minutes to search and then have them share their findings with the class. This will help contextualize the topic and allow them to engage from the beginning of the lesson.

Initial Reflections

1. How has technology influenced artistic creation in recent years?

2. What are some examples of digital art that you know?

3. How are augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) being used in art?

4. What is the impact of technology on the viewer's experience when interacting with artworks?

5. How can digital art be accessible to different audiences compared to traditional forms of art?

Development

Duration: 70 to 80 minutes

The purpose of this stage is to allow students to apply their knowledge of art and technology practically and creatively. By working on activities that utilize digital and interactive tools, students develop technical and critical skills while exploring new forms of artistic expression.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended that only one of the suggested activities be carried out

Activity 1 - Augmented Reality in Art History

> Duration: 60 to 70 minutes

- Objective: Develop understanding of classic artworks through augmented reality technology, promoting interactivity and engagement with art history.

- Description: Students will create a virtual tour of famous artworks using augmented reality (AR). They will select important artworks and create interactions that allow viewers to explore information about the works in an interactive way.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Each group must choose 3 famous artworks to include in their virtual tour.

  • Using augmented reality apps available for phones, such as Artivive or Google AR, students will create interactions for each artwork.

  • The interactions must include: historical information about the work, technical details (e.g., techniques used, materials), and interesting trivia.

  • Ask students to add at least one interactive activity, such as a quiz or a discovery game, for each artwork.

  • After creating the tour, each group will present their results to the class, explaining their choices and the interactions created.

Activity 2 - Digital Artistic Influencer

> Duration: 60 to 70 minutes

- Objective: Encourage critical analysis and creativity among students through the creation of digital content, bringing them closer to the dynamics of social media while exploring digital art.

- Description: Students will create profiles of artistic influencers on social media, where they will share their analyses and critiques of digital artworks. They will produce multimedia content, such as posts, videos, and stories, to engage their followers.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Each group must create a fictitious profile of an artistic influencer on a social media platform of their choice (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.).

  • Students will select at least three digital artworks to analyze and critique.

  • Each group must produce different types of content, such as: detailed posts with images and text, short videos explaining the works, and analyses in story format.

  • Encourage students to use available image and video editing tools on their phones or computers to make the content more attractive.

  • After creating the content, each group will present their profile and explain their analyses and the strategy used to engage followers.

Activity 3 - Gamification of Art History

> Duration: 60 to 70 minutes

- Objective: Use gamification as an educational tool to explore art history, promoting interaction, active learning, and student engagement.

- Description: Students will develop an educational game using a free online platform, such as Kahoot or Quizizz, to teach art history through interactive questions and challenges.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Each group will choose an artistic era (e.g., Renaissance, Baroque, Modernism) to focus their game on.

  • Using the chosen platform, students will create a series of questions and challenges based on the selected artistic era.

  • Questions may include: identifying artworks, details about artists and their techniques, and historical contexts of artistic creations.

  • Ask students to include interactive and visual elements to make the game more appealing.

  • Each group will have the opportunity to play the games created by other groups and provide feedback.

  • At the end, everyone will discuss which elements worked best and how gamification helped in learning.

Feedback

Group Discussion

Facilitate a group discussion with all students, where each group shares what they learned from the proposed activities. Use the following script to introduce the discussion:

  1. Ask students what were the greatest challenges they faced when integrating technology into their artistic creations.
  2. Ask them to share the most surprising discoveries they made during the activities.
  3. Invite students to reflect on how technology may continue to influence art in the future.
  4. Encourage a conversation about the differences between appreciating traditional art and digital art.

Reflections

1. What was the activity you enjoyed most and why? 2. How has technology expanded your understanding of art? 3. How do you think augmented reality, virtual reality, and social media can be used to promote art in an accessible and interactive way?

360° Feedback

Conduct a 360° feedback session, where each student receives feedback from other group members they worked with. Instruct students to follow these guidelines to ensure that the feedback is constructive and respectful:

  1. Start by pointing out something positive about the colleague's contribution.
  2. Offer specific suggestions on how the colleague can improve in future activities.
  3. Be clear and objective, avoiding personal criticisms.
  4. Thank the colleague for their effort and collaboration.

Conclusion

Duration: 10 to 15 minutes

Purpose: This final stage aims to consolidate the learnings, connecting them with the real world and modern dynamics. The objective is to reinforce the relevance and practical application of the acquired knowledge, clarifying how these new approaches to art can impact students' lives and future careers.
