Project Objective:

This project aims for students to learn how to:

• Create a map of the school, using graphic elements and legends, representing the physical spaces of the school and the location of the most important areas.
• Develop a mind map of the school, representing in a more visual and summarized way the school spaces and their connections.

Detailed Project Description:

In this activity, each group will become a small cartographer, creating a detailed map and a mind map of the school. The detailed map should be as accurate as possible, representing each classroom, the library, the computer room, the playground, the sports court, the cafeteria, and other school environments. The mind map, in turn, should represent in a more summarized and visual way the school spaces and the connections between them.

Students will need to work as a team to discuss and decide how they will represent each school space on the maps. During the process, they should also think about the organization of the school and how the different spaces are related.

Necessary Materials:

• Cardboard or poster board.
• Colored pencils, markers, crayons.
• Ruler.
• Eraser.
• Blunt scissors.
• Glue stick.
• Old magazines (to cut and paste in the space representation, if preferred).

Step by Step:

1. Group Formation: Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members.

2. Discussion and Planning: Each group should discuss and plan how they will represent the school on the maps. They should think about which spaces are most important and how they are connected.
