Project Objective
The objective of this project is for the class, divided into groups, to create a fictional city using concepts of displacement and location on the grid. The activity aims to enhance students' understanding of how to use the grid to represent displacements in space, as well as develop teamwork skills, creativity, logical reasoning, and time management.
Detailed Project Description
Each group will receive a large sheet of grid paper, colored pens, ruler, pencil, and eraser. The challenge is to create a fictional city where they must draw their streets, houses, schools, parks, lakes, buildings, and anything else they can imagine.
But beware! You must use the grid to draw the city and also to locate yourselves within it. This means that you will have to make displacements on the grid to move from one place to another.
For example, if you want to draw a street that starts at point (3, 2) and ends at point (8, 2), you will have to make a displacement on the grid of 5 units to the right.
In addition, you will have to name the points on the grid to facilitate location. For example, if the bottom left corner of the grid is point (0, 0), you can call the point to the right of it (1, 0), the point above it (0, 1), and so on.
You can use creativity to create your dream city! But remember, the city needs to be well organized on the grid so that everyone can easily locate themselves.
