Activity Title: My World in Charts

Activity Objective:

Learn to read, interpret, and create bar charts, line charts, and tables. Develop teamwork, communication, time management, and critical thinking skills.

Project Description:

Students, in teams of 3 to 5, must select a topic of interest to the team, it can be something related to school life, such as the distribution of grades in different subjects, or something from the general context, such as the weather in their city. Students should collect data on the topic and present it clearly and explanatorily using bar charts, line charts, and tables.

Materials Needed:

• Paper
• Pencil
• Ruler
• Computer spreadsheet (Google Sheets or Excel)

Step-by-Step:

1. Form groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Each group must choose a topic of interest and collect data on that topic. The data can be numerical and/or categorized.
3. With the collected data, students must create a bar chart, line chart, or table for each different set of information.
4. Students should use paper and ruler to create the charts manually and/or they can use a computer spreadsheet to create digital charts.
5. Finally, students must prepare a 10-minute presentation to show their charts to the class, explaining what each chart represents, how to interpret it, and what they learned from it.

Project Deliverables:

1. Charts and tables on the topic chosen by the group.

2. Presentation of the charts and tables to the class.

3. A written document in the form of a report containing:

   • Introduction: Provide context for the theme, its relevance and real-world application, and the objective of this project.
   • Development: Explain the theory behind the central theme(s) of the project, detail the activity, indicate the methodology used, and finally present and discuss the results obtained.
   • Conclusion: Summarize the main points, explain the learnings obtained, and draw conclusions about the project.
   • Bibliography: Indicate the sources used to work on the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

Students should focus on interpreting the data collected for the project, highlighting important information, comparisons, evolution over time, and main conclusions. The created charts and tables should be well described, clearly explaining how they were created and what they represent.

In the conclusion, students should reflect on what they learned from the project, both in terms of the chosen theme and the skills developed. They should discuss how the ability to create and interpret charts can be useful in their daily lives and future careers.
