In our daily lives, we make comparisons all the time, even if we don't realize it. For example, when we say that one object is bigger than the other, we are making a comparison between the two. With fractions, it is no different. We can compare fractions to find out which is the largest, the smallest, or if they are equal.

Fraction study is a very relevant topic, as it is one of the pillars of mathematics, which will help you understand more complex topics in the future, such as real numbers, rational numbers, and even more advanced topics like functions.

Comparing fractions is used in various situations in our daily lives. If you have a cake recipe that calls for 2/3 of a cup of sugar and you only have a 1/2 cup measuring cup, you need to know that you will need to use the measuring cup more than once to get the right amount. In this situation, comparing fractions helps you find out that 2/3 is greater than 1/2.

Another practical application is in school. Imagine that you have two tests, one with 20 questions and the other with 30 questions. If you answer 10 questions correctly in each of them, it does not mean that you performed the same on both. By comparing the fraction of correct answers, it is found that you obtained a better result in the test with 20 questions (10/20 = 1/2) than in the test with 30 questions (10/30 = 1/3).
