Graphs are mathematical tools that help us interpret, organize, and represent data. Through them, we can identify patterns, trends, and correlations that could be difficult to understand just through raw numbers. There are several types of graphs, including: column graphs, pictorial graphs, line graphs, pie charts, bar graphs, and many others. Each type of graph is more suitable for a specific situation and for representing certain sets of data.
When working with graphs, we will address subjects such as scale, axes (vertical and horizontal), legends, title, among other elements that make up the graph structure. Each of these elements has an important function in the correct interpretation of the graph. The scale, for example, helps to understand the proportion of the data; the axes position the data on the graph according to the variables represented; the legend helps us understand what each color or symbol means, and the title provides us with an overview of the theme that the graph represents.
Graphs are extremely relevant to our daily lives. They are present in many contexts, from opinion surveys, through game statistics, to news about the economy and health. Furthermore, many jobs require the ability to read and interpret graphs, whether to understand a company's performance, analyze market trends, monitor product quality, among other functions. Knowing how to create and interpret graphs is a highly valued skill in the world of work. Through this project, we hope that you develop this skill, learning in a playful and fun way.

Activity Title: "Real Life Graphs"
Project Objective
To deepen students' understanding and skills related to the creation and reading of graphs through the collection, organization, and representation of data on a topic chosen by the students.
Detailed Project Description
Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 to carry out this activity, which will last one week. The activity will be divided into stages throughout the week, and each stage should take two to four hours per student to complete.
Each group will choose a topic of interest to the group, which can be of any nature (examples of topics: weather, sports, city landmarks, supermarket product prices, etc). Each group will conduct research and data collection related to the chosen topic and organize this data into graphs.
Required Materials
- Notebook for notes
- Pencils, erasers, and colored pens
- Computer with internet access for research (optional)
- Spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets (optional)

Choosing the topic: Each group will choose a topic of interest for the research. This topic should be something that can be represented through graphs.

Research planning and data collection: The groups will plan how to obtain the necessary data for the research. They can use online sources, books, or even conduct field research.

Data Collection and Organization: The groups will collect information and organize it into a table. They can use spreadsheet software for this.

Creating the Graphs: With the collected and organized data, the students will create graphs that represent this data. They should create at least three different types of graphs (for example: column graph, line graph, and pictorial graph).

Interpreting the Graphs: Once the graphs are ready, the students must write a description interpreting each of them.

Report Preparation: The groups will write a report containing the following parts:

Introduction: Contextualize the chosen topic, its relevance and real-world application, and the project's objective.

Development: Explain the theory behind the graphs used, detail the research methodology, explain the created graphs, and discuss the results obtained.

Conclusions: Conclude the work by summarizing the main points, explaining the learnings obtained, and drawing conclusions about the project.

Bibliography: Indicate the sources they relied on to work on the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

Project Presentation: At the end of the week, each group will present their project to the class, explaining the chosen topic, the research methodology, the created graphs, and the conclusions drawn.
Project Deliverables
The project will have the following deliverables:
- created graphs representing the collected data;
- a written report containing introduction, development, conclusions, and bibliography;
- project presentation to the class.
Each part of the project must be clearly linked to one of the stages of the practical activity. For example, the written report should be a detailed record of all activities carried out step by step by the students, highlighting the learnings obtained and the conclusions drawn on the topic worked on. The interpretation of the graphs, one of the central points of the report, should demonstrate the students' ability to understand, analyze, and make inferences from the created graphs.
