Detailed Project Description:
In this activity, you, as materials detectives, will conduct experiments to discover the physical properties of different materials, such as solubility, density, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, transparency, malleability, and hardness.
Each team will receive a box with a variety of materials, such as pieces of wood, stones, metals, plastics, fabrics, paper, among others. You will have to plan and conduct experiments to discover the physical properties of each material. Then, you will document your findings in an investigation report.
Required Materials:
- Box with a variety of materials (wood, stones, metals, plastics, fabrics, paper, etc.)
- Scale (to measure the mass of the materials)
- Container with water
- Thermometer
- Electrical wires and a battery (to test electrical conductivity)
- Flashlight (to test transparency)
- Ruler
- Sheets of paper, pencils, and pens (for notes)
Step by Step:

Team Formation: Form groups of 3 to 5 students. Each team will receive a box with a variety of materials.
