Thus, we can begin the study of deforestation by observing its historical process and how it has developed over time. We must understand that the removal of forest cover does not occur uniformly throughout the world, but is influenced by a variety of geographical and human factors.

Next, we will explore the different techniques used in agriculture and industry that have contributed to deforestation. These activities modify the natural landscape and can have negative consequences for the environment and human life.

Finally, we will reflect on the actions that can be taken to minimize deforestation and to preserve our forests. We believe that students can be protagonists in this issue, spreading knowledge about the importance of our forests and the role that each one can play to protect them.

Project Objective

Develop an understanding of the problem of deforestation through a practical and interactive investigation. Students should investigate deforestation in a region of their choice, exploring the causes, consequences, and possible solutions, and sharing their findings with the class.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. They will choose a region of Brazil or the world to research the problem of deforestation, focusing on the causes, consequences, and proposed solutions.

Each group will create an interactive map of the chosen area, which should indicate areas of deforestation, the main human activities related to the problem, areas of reforestation, and promising initiatives for conservation.

The groups should make a presentation to the class, sharing what they have learned about deforestation in the chosen region. They should also discuss possible solutions to the problem and existing conservation initiatives.

Materials Needed

1. Internet access for research.
2. Materials to create the map (paper, pencils, colored pens, etc.), or digital mapping software such as Google Earth or ArcGIS.

1. Divide into groups of 3-5 students and choose a region to research.
2. Research online to collect data on deforestation in the region, including its causes, consequences, and possible solutions. Use the sources recommended above and others that you consider relevant.
3. Draw a map of the region or use digital map software. Mark the areas of deforestation, the human activities related to the problem, the areas of reforestation, and any promising initiatives for conservation.
4. Prepare a presentation for the class, sharing what you have learned. The presentation should be creative and informative, focusing on the main findings and solutions.

Project Delivery

At the end of the project, the groups must deliver:

1. The interactive map of the chosen area.

2. A written report containing:

   • Introduction: Contextualization of the problem of deforestation in the chosen region.
   • Development: Discussion on the causes of deforestation in the region, the consequences, and the proposed solutions. Also describe the processes used to create the interactive map and for the research.
   • Conclusion: Summarize your main points and discuss the learnings and conclusions drawn from the project.
   • Bibliography: List all the sources used for the elaboration of the project.

3. Oral presentation to the class.

The oral and written presentation should complement each other. In the presentation, students should share their findings in an accessible way, and the written report should be a more formal and detailed record of the project.

The report must be submitted one week after the project start date. Students are expected to invest between two and four hours working on the project.
