In this project, we will focus on one of the textual genres that is widely used in our daily lives, which is the news. News is presented to us in various ways and through various means, such as newspapers, television, radio, and the internet. They are one of the main ways to keep us updated on what is happening around us and in the world.
This textual genre has very specific characteristics, such as a defined structure, objective and clear language, and the presentation of current and relevant facts. Learning to identify and produce this textual genre is vital to becoming an effective communicator and an informed member of society.
Introduction
The "News" genre is based on reporting recent or new events. It is a factual narrative that provides information about a specific event, person, or something of public interest.
The news begins with the most important information, followed by details and additional supporting information in order of importance. This is known as the inverted pyramid, a structure that helps readers understand the subject quickly and decide whether they want to continue reading.
The news also uses clear and direct language to convey information effectively and easily understood. They also need to be timely and relevant to the audience. Understanding this textual genre can help you understand the information and communicate effectively in the world.
Practical Activity: "Becoming a Reporter!"
Project Objective
The objective of this project is for students to develop a deeper understanding of the "news" textual genre. Students will research, write, review, and present their own news.
Detailed Project Description
The project will be carried out in groups of 3 to 5 students, where each group will have to choose a topic of social relevance to the school community (e.g., changes in the curriculum, inauguration of new facilities at the school, upcoming sports or cultural events, etc.) and research this topic. After the research, the students will then develop a complete news story, including the headline, lead, body, and closing remarks. Each group will present the news they created to the class and will also write a detailed project report.

Group formation: Students should organize themselves into groups of 3 to 5 people. Each group should choose a leader who will be responsible for ensuring that everyone participates and that deadlines are met.

Topic selection: Each group should choose a topic of social relevance to the school community that will be the focus of the news story.

Research: Students should research the chosen topic. They should seek out relevant and current information and note their sources for future reference.

Writing the news story: Based on the information gathered in the research phase, students should write the news story. The news story should include an engaging headline, a lead (paragraph that summarizes the story), a body (with the most relevant information and details about the situation), and closing remarks.

Revision: The group should review the news story, checking that it follows the correct structure, that the language is appropriate, and that all the necessary information is present.

Presentation: Each group should present their news story to the class. They can create a slide or a poster to illustrate the presentation.

Report: Finally, each group should write a report on the project. The report should contain the following topics:
- Introduction: Contextualize the topic, its relevance and application in the real world, as well as the objective of the project.
- Development: Explain the theory behind the news textual genre, explain the activity in detail, indicate the methodology used, and finally present and discuss the results obtained.
- Conclusions: Review the main points, explaining the lessons learned and the conclusions drawn about the project.
- Bibliography: Indicate the sources used to work on the project, such as books, web pages, videos, etc.
The project will last for one month from the date of announcement. Groups should manage their time properly to ensure that all steps are completed on time.
