Injective and surjective functions are crucial topics to be understood by all those who are interested in using functions as a means to analyze and solve problems.

Activity Title: Mastering Functions: Injective and Surjective
Project Objective:
The objective of this project is to deeply understand the concepts of injective and surjective functions, as well as their application in modeling real-world situations.
Project Description:
Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will have to choose two real-world situations, one for the application of an injective function and another for a surjective function. Based on these situations, students should create graphs, tables, and/or equations that represent the functions. It will also be necessary to develop a problem related to each situation, solve it using the created function, and justify the answer.
Required Materials:
- Books and/or online resources on mathematical functions.
- Paper and pen to sketch the graphs.
- Computer with graph creation software, such as GeoGebra or Excel.
- Text processing software to write the report.
Step by Step:
- Study injective and surjective functions using the resources indicated in the context and others that you deem necessary.
- Form groups and assign a coordinator to each.
- Each group must choose two real situations: one that can be represented by an injective function and another by a surjective function.
- For each situation, create a graph (or table or equation) representing the function.
- Develop a problem for each situation and solve it using the created function. Justify the answer.
- Write the report following the topics Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography.
Report Development:
The report should follow the following structure:
- Introduction: Provide context on the topic, its relevance and application in the real world, as well as the objective of this project.
- Development: Explain the theory behind injective and surjective functions, detailing the activity carried out, the methodology used, and present and discuss the results obtained. Insert the created graphs and explain how they were used to solve the proposed problems.
- Conclusions: Summarize the main points, explaining the learnings obtained and the conclusions drawn about the application of injective and surjective functions in the real world.
- Bibliography: Indicate the sources you relied on to work on the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.
The report must be submitted within one week.
