Activity Title: Language in Action

Project Objective:

To apply the concepts of language functions in different communication contexts, through the elaboration of a short film, highlighting the importance and application of language functions in everyday life, and to critically analyze the use of these functions in different contexts of use.

Detailed Project Description:

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members and will be asked to create a short film (lasting between 5 to 10 minutes) that vividly illustrates the use of language functions in everyday situations.

The film should go beyond simple language use and focus on the role that language plays in different social contexts. Students should highlight how different language functions (such as the Emotive Function, Conative Function, Referential Function, Metalinguistic Function, Phatic Function, and Poetic Function) are used to convey meanings, influence people, express emotions, and establish power relations in different situations.

Necessary Materials:

1. Camera or Smartphone for filming.
2. Computer for film editing.
3. Video editing software.
4. Script prepared by the group.
5. Accessories and costumes (optional).

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution:

1. Study and Research: Students should review and study language functions. They should analyze which language functions are used in different contexts and how they affect communication.

2. Scriptwriting: After the research stage, students should write a script for their short film. The script should include the use of language functions in a meaningful and coherent way. Each language function should be represented at least once in the short film.

3. Filming: Once the script is ready, students should film the short film according to the script. The group can decide on the filming location, and creativity is encouraged.

4. Editing: After recording the video, students should edit the film using editing software. They should organize the scenes according to the script, add sound effects, music, etc., as needed.

5. Production of the report: After finishing the short film, the group should write a detailed report explaining the entire process of creating the film and the use of language functions.

The report should contain the following items:

1. Introduction: present the project, the relevance, and the applicability of language functions in real life.

2. Development: explain the language functions used in the short film, the reason for their choice, and how they were integrated into the script. Additionally, describe the film production process and the challenges faced.

3. Conclusions: reiterate the main points, the lessons learned, and final considerations about the project.

4. Bibliography: Indicate the sources they relied on to work on the project.
