Reading is one of the most crucial skills we can develop. It is not only a tool for learning but also a way to connect with other people, places, and ideas. Reading allows us to absorb knowledge that we can use to improve ourselves and the world around us. It enables us to travel without leaving our place, to find ourselves in stories and characters, and to immerse ourselves in magical and distant worlds.

But for reading to be truly effective, we need to understand its objectives. What do we expect to gain from a text? Are we reading to learn something new, to entertain ourselves, to understand a different point of view from ours? Understanding our reading objectives allows us to choose the right texts and maximize what we get from them.

Introduction

This project focuses on Reading Objectives in Portuguese. The idea is for you, students, to explore the different reading objectives, understand their applications, and comprehend how they influence our approach to reading.

You may wonder, why are reading objectives so important? Well, they provide a framework that helps us understand and connect with the text, whether it is a novel, a math textbook, a news article, or a poem. By being aware of our reading objectives, we can read more effectively and deeply.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "The Reading Journey: Discovering Your Objectives"

Project Objective:

To learn and understand the reading objectives, applying this understanding in a practical context. This project aims to help develop an awareness of how our approach to reading changes based on our objectives.

Detailed Project Description:

In this project, students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people, and each group will be responsible for investigating and presenting in detail one of the main reading objectives. The main reading objectives can be: reading for learning, reading for information, reading for pleasure, reading for critical evaluation, and reading for interpretation.

Each group, during the project week, should:

1. Investigate their assigned reading objective.
2. Present a written summary of what the assigned reading objective is and how it is applied in practice.
3. Choose a text (it can be an article, a book excerpt, a poem, etc.) that they believe aligns with the assigned reading objective.
4. Analyze the chosen text, explaining how the assigned reading objective influences the way it is read and understood.
5. Present their conclusions in a creative way. This can be a video, a multimedia presentation, a play, etc.

Required Materials:

1. Books, articles, and online sources for research on reading objectives.
2. Computer with internet access for research and presentation production.

Step-by-Step Activity Execution:

1. Form groups, each with 3 to 5 students, and assign a reading objective to each group.
2. Ask students to research the assigned reading objective in depth. Encourage them to use a variety of sources, including books, academic articles, and online resources.
3. Once each group understands the reading objective, they should write a detailed summary explaining what it is and how it is applied in practice.
4. Next, the group should choose a text they believe aligns well with the assigned reading objective.
5. The group should then analyze the text, explaining how understanding the reading objective influences how they read and understand the text.
6. Finally, each group should present their conclusions and analyses in a creative way. This can be a video, a PowerPoint presentation, a performance, etc.
7. Written reports should be submitted to the teacher on the designated date.

Project Submission:

At the end of the week, each group must submit the written summary of the assigned reading objective, the text analysis, and the creative presentation of their conclusions.

The written document, for example, could have the following structure:

1. Introduction: Contextualization of the assigned reading objective, its relevance and real-world application, and the project's objective.
2. Development: Theoretical explanation of the assigned reading objective, details about the chosen text, methodology used for the analysis, and discussion of the results obtained.
3. Conclusion: Recap of the main points, lessons learned, and conclusions about the project.
4. Bibliography: Indication of the sources used in the project, such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

Each group should be prepared to present and discuss their work with the whole class. This will not only allow a review of the content but also enable a valuable exchange of ideas about the different reading objectives.
