In our daily lives, we are constantly reading and interpreting verbal texts. They are a form of linguistic expression that uses words to convey a message. Verbal texts can be found in various formats, such as books, newspapers, magazines, letters, emails, text messages, social media posts, movie scripts, plays, among others.

Understanding the meaning of verbal texts involves more than just reading the words. It is necessary to analyze the text structure, identify the main and secondary ideas, relate the content of the text to our prior knowledge of the subject, and consider the context in which the text was produced. It is a complex process that requires reading and comprehension skills that are essential for effective communication and learning in all areas of knowledge.

Introduction

In the first year of high school, students begin to deepen their studies in Portuguese Language, considering the linguistic, discursive, and textual aspects of verbal texts, in addition to the informative aspects. It is a crucial moment to develop text interpretation skills that are essential for academic success and active participation in society.

This project aims to help students better understand verbal texts and develop the necessary skills to interpret them correctly. The project is designed to be carried out in groups to encourage collaboration and teamwork. Throughout the project, students will be encouraged to discuss their ideas, share their understanding of the texts, and reflect on the process of assigning meaning to the texts.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Unveiling Meanings: A Journey through Verbal Texts"

Project Objective

To promote a deepening in the understanding and interpretation of verbal texts, through analysis, discussion, reflection, and production of different texts.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 participants, and each group will receive a task to be completed in one month. The project will consist of choosing three verbal texts of different genres (a journalistic text, a poem, and an advertising text, for example) and carrying out a series of activities involving interpretation, analysis, and textual production.

Required Materials

• Books, magazines, newspapers, internet access for text selection
• Notebooks or sheets of paper for notes and drafts
• Computers with word processors for writing the final report

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

1. Text Selection: Groups should research and choose three verbal texts of different genres. The texts should be challenging but suitable for the students' level.

2. Text Analysis: Each group should analyze the structure of the texts, identify the main and secondary ideas, and deduce the purpose and target audience of the text.

3. Text Interpretation: Students should discuss among themselves what they understand from the texts and build a collective meaning for each of the texts.

4. Text Production: After reading and interpreting, each group should produce a new text of each genre, applying the concepts and techniques learned in the interpretation of the original texts.

5. Writing the Report: Finally, students will consolidate all the work done in a written report, which will contain the chosen texts, the analysis and interpretation made, the texts produced, as well as a reflection on the process of assigning meaning to the texts.

Project Deliverables

The main product of the project will be the written report, structured as follows:

1. Introduction: Students must contextualize the theme, explain the relevance of interpreting verbal texts in the current world, and what the project's objective was.

2. Development: Should contain the theory applied in the interpretation of texts, a detailed description of the activities carried out by the students, the methodology used, and the presentation of the chosen texts, the discussions that took place, the difficulties encountered, the interpretations made, and the texts produced by the students.

3. Conclusion: Students should summarize the main points of the work, describe the skills acquired and the learnings, and reflect on the importance of interpreting verbal texts in effective communication.

4. Bibliography: Students should list all sources consulted during the project, including the original texts chosen, books, websites, videos, among others.

At the end of the project, it is expected that students have acquired important skills such as time management, effective communication, problem-solving, critical and creative thinking, as well as having delved into the study and practice of interpreting verbal texts.
