Studying Mesopotamia is important due to its reputation as one of the first societies to make significant advances in creating and consolidating political and social institutions, developing agricultural techniques, and initiating writing and law. This makes this region a milestone in human development, considered the "cradle of civilization".

Understanding Mesopotamia is essential to appreciate the complexity and diversity of ancient human societies, as well as to understand how their inventions and innovations still influence our lives today.

Practical Activity: Exploring Mesopotamia

Objective

The main objective of this project is to allow students to explore the world of Mesopotamia with a practical and interdisciplinary approach. Through the proposed activities, each group will investigate agriculture, religion, politics, laws, economy, architecture, and writing in Mesopotamia.

Project Description

The project would be divided into four main parts: Research, Creation of a Documentary, Construction of a 3D Model, and Writing the Final Report.

1. Research

Students should conduct extensive research on the four themes of Mesopotamia: Agriculture, religion, politics, laws, economy, architecture, and writing. Each group should select at least one topic to investigate.

2. Creation of a Documentary

Each group should create a 30-minute video documentary on the researched topics. Students can use any video editing tool of their choice. This documentary should present their research findings in an interesting and engaging way, bringing the ancient world of Mesopotamia to life for the viewer.

3. Construction of a 3D Model

Each group should build a three-dimensional model of an aspect of Mesopotamia related to their research topic. For example, if the group chooses to research architecture, they could build a model of a ziggurat.

4. Writing the Final Report

Each group should write a detailed report on the project. The report should include an introduction, development, conclusions, and bibliography used.

• Construction materials for the 3D model (cardboard, paint, glue, etc.)

Step by Step

1. Form groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Each group chooses a topic for research.
3. Conduct research.
4. Produce the documentary.
5. Create the 3D model.
6. Write the report.
7. Present the documentary and 3D model to the class.

The project will last approximately 4 weeks. During this time, students should manage their time efficiently to complete all parts of the project.

Project Deliverables

At the end of the project, each group of students must deliver:

1. Video documentary: This will be presented to the class and evaluated for clarity of information, originality, depth of research, and technical video production skills.

2. 3D Model: This will also be presented to the class and evaluated for historical accuracy, creativity, craftsmanship, and, most importantly, how well it represents the chosen topic of the project.

3. Final Report: This must be submitted in digital format. Students should follow the proposed format: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography. In the introduction, students should contextualize the chosen topic. In the development, students should describe in detail the research process, documentary production, and 3D model construction. In the conclusion, students should reflect on what they learned from the project and how this teamwork contributed to a greater understanding of Mesopotamia. In the bibliography, all research sources must be properly cited according to ABNT standards.

Important: The report writing should be done collectively, and it is essential that all group members contribute to the final result. The writing will be an opportunity to improve communication skills, theoretical foundation, and expression of ideas and arguments.
