Triangle Existence Condition

Practical Activity: Project 'Triangle in Game'

Project Objectives

  1. Understand the properties of triangle sides and apply the triangle inequality.
  2. Understand and apply the concept of geometric rigidity.
  3. Know and test the necessary conditions for the construction of a triangle.

Project Description

Groups will create a 'board game' whose rules will be based on tasks involving triangles. The game should contain challenges involving the construction of triangles with some predetermined conditions, such as a task where they must build a triangle with two sides of already stipulated lengths and determine the possible range of lengths for the third side.

Necessary Materials

  1. Cardboard or Cardboard
  2. Colored markers
  3. Ruler and Compass
  4. Modeling clay (optional)

Step by Step

  1. Each group must create a game board on cardboard or cardboard. The board can be of the format they prefer, but it must contain spaces that will represent the squares that the players will advance.

  2. In each square, students should write challenges involving the sides of the triangles. The challenges may involve building a triangle with certain sides, solving questions involving the triangle inequality, or even testing conditions for the existence of a triangle.

  3. The group must create a set of rules for the game, explaining how to advance, how to win, and what happens when landing on each square.

  4. The group must create game pieces using modeling clay or other material of their choice.

  5. Test the game with group members and make rule modifications if necessary to make the game more fun and educational.

Project Deliverables

In addition to the physical board game, each group must produce a project report containing:

  1. Introduction: Here students must contextualize the importance of triangles and their properties, giving examples of where these properties are used in the real world. They must also explain the project objectives.

  2. Development: The group must detail here the theory behind the game challenges, explaining the triangle inequality, the rigidity of triangles, and the conditions for the existence of a triangle. In addition, they must explain in detail how the game was created, the game rules, and how this activity helped understand the studied concepts.

  3. Conclusions: Here students must reflect on the learning obtained, the difficulties encountered, and how they overcame these difficulties. They should comment on the experience of group work and which socio-emotional skills were developed.

  4. Bibliography: All research materials used must be cited here.

Each student in the group must participate in the preparation of the report, dividing the parts among themselves, so that everyone practices both written communication and group collaboration.

Note: The game and the report must be delivered within one week from the start date of the project.
