Verbal and Nominal Regency

Background

The Portuguese language, rich and complex, has several rules that guide its correct usage. Moreover, it is a living language, constantly modified and adapted to the reality of its speakers. Among the various norms that govern Portuguese, we have verbal and nominal regency, which is the study of dependency relationships that are established between a verb or a noun and their complements.

The regency allows the speaker to express their ideas clearly and precisely. Furthermore, it is an important communication tool, since regency norms are shared by the community of Portuguese speakers. That way, mastering the rules of verbal and nominal regency is fundamental for good communication and comprehension of Portuguese.

These topics, verbal and nominal regency, are often considered challenging by students, but are fundamental for an in-depth understanding of the correct use of the Portuguese language. Mastering these concepts can not only improve students' academic performance, but also their daily communication skills, since these concepts are routinely used in speaking and writing.

The importance of understanding and correctly using verbal and nominal regency is reflected not only in the effectiveness of daily communication, but also in professional life. In any profession, the ability to communicate ideas clearly and precisely is invaluable. Moreover, many public exams and university entrance exams evaluate knowledge in this subject, making its mastery crucial to achieve such goals.

That is why this project is dedicated to the study of verbal and nominal regency. We intend not only to understand the theory that involves the concepts, but also to apply them in practice, through playful and collaborative activities.

Practical Activity: "Grammar in Action"

Project Objective

The main objective of this project is to apply the concepts of verbal and nominal regency, working in groups, through the elaboration and presentation of a play.

Project Description

Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5 members, must create and present a play lasting 15 to 20 minutes. The play must be entirely created by the students, from the story, characters, script, to the direction and production. The theme of the play is free, however, it is essential that verbal and nominal regency be present and clearly evidenced in the characters' speech and in the plot of the story.

Required Materials

  • Writing materials: notebooks, pencils, erasers, colored pens.
  • Space for rehearsal and presentation: it can be a classroom, the school auditorium or any other suitable space.
  • Materials for scenery and costumes: depends on the choice of the group, it may involve fabrics, cardboard, paints, clothes, among others.

Project Step by Step

  1. Deciding the theme (1-2 hours): In their groups, students should discuss and choose the theme and the story that the play will address. The theme is free, but must allow for the clear application of verbal and nominal regency.

  2. Division of tasks (1 hour): Students should divide the tasks among themselves. Who will write the script, who will work on the production, who will be the actors, etc.

  3. Studying the theme (2-3 hours): Students should study deeply about verbal and nominal regency, their rules and application. Use the suggested sources to help in this study.

  4. Creating the script (3-5 hours): After deciding on the story, the students should meet to write the script for the play. The script should include the characters' lines, the scenes, the settings and the costumes.

  5. Rehearsal (5-7 hours): With the script in hand, students should start rehearsing the play. This is the time to make adjustments, both in the lines and in the acting.

  6. Presenting the play (1-2 hours): Finally, students should present the play to the class and the teacher. The presentation should be recorded for later analysis.

Project Delivery

After completing the practical part, students should prepare a report following the following topics:

  1. Introduction: Contextualize the theme, its relevance and application in the real world, and the objective of this project. The theme of the play and how verbal and nominal regency were approached should be mentioned.

  2. Development: Explain the theory of verbal and nominal regency, explain the activity in detail, indicate the methodology used and finally present and discuss the results obtained. Parts of the script where verbal and nominal regency were applied should be attached to the report.

  3. Conclusion: Summarize the main points of the activity, explaining the lessons learned and the conclusions drawn about the project. It should be mentioned how the practice helped in the understanding of verbal and nominal regency.

  4. Bibliography: Indicate the sources that were the basis for the work, such as books, websites, videos, etc.

The report should be written collaboratively by the group members and submitted to the teacher within one month.
