Verb: Concept of Verb

Practical Activity: "The Verb Walk"

Project Objective

This project aims to explore the use and understanding of verbs in depth, through a playful and collaborative approach. The activity will also involve the integration of concepts from other disciplines, such as History and Arts, in order to reinforce the importance and applicability of verbs in different contexts.

Project Description

In this activity, students will produce a theatrical piece where the central theme will be the trajectory of verbs in the Portuguese Language. The piece should tell the story of a specific verb, from its origins in Latin to its application in contemporary Portuguese, passing through its evolution over the centuries. The plot should include:

  • The etymology of the verb.
  • Its conjugation in all moods and tenses.
  • Its application in different linguistic contexts.

Necessary Materials

  • Grammar and etymology books
  • Internet access for research
  • Materials for set and costumes: paper, fabrics, paints, accessories, etc.

Activity Step by Step

  1. Divide the students into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group must choose a verb to be the protagonist of their piece.

  2. Students should research the etymology of the chosen verb, its variations over time, and its application in various communicative situations.

  3. After conducting the research, each group should write the script of the piece, creating a plot that tells the story of the verb in an engaging and educational way.

  4. Next, students should produce the set and costumes for the piece, respecting the historical evolution that will be represented in the plot.

  5. Finally, each group must rehearse and present the piece to the class. Each presentation should last a minimum of 20 minutes and a maximum of 30 minutes.

Project Deliverables

At the end of the project, each group must deliver:

  1. The script of the piece: This document should include the lines of each character, descriptions of the sets and costumes, and indications of movements and actions of the characters.

  2. The presentation of the piece: The piece will be presented to the class and evaluated based on its content, creativity, and execution.

  3. The project report: This document should follow the format of an academic report and should include:

    • Introduction: Explaining the project's objective, the relevance of studying verbs, and the practical application of this knowledge.
    • Development: Presenting the research conducted, the methodology used for the project's elaboration, the script of the piece, and the justification of the choices made during the creation process.
    • Conclusions: Indicating the main learnings obtained during the project, and the importance of teamwork for its development and execution.
    • Bibliography: Listing the sources consulted during the project's realization.

The project lasts approximately 12 hours per student, distributed between research, script development, set and costume production, rehearsals, and presentation of the piece.

In addition to the technical learning about verbs, it is expected that students develop socio-emotional skills such as time management, teamwork, problem-solving, creative thinking, proactivity, among others.
