In this project, we will focus specifically on the different theatrical styles that have emerged throughout time and cultures. These styles are the distinctive and particular way of making theater and reflect the social, historical, and aesthetic characteristics of different eras and places.

To understand theatrical styles, we need to delve into the history of theater and see how different societies created their own forms of expression and how these forms influenced and were influenced by the changes in these societies. In addition, we need to understand what characterizes each style and how we can identify them in a theatrical production.

Importance of Theatrical Styles

Theatrical styles are an integral part of human history. They tell us how people from different times and cultures expressed themselves and how they saw the world around them. Moreover, they are a key to understanding and appreciating any theatrical production.

The techniques and concepts that emerged in these styles are still used today and influence all forms of artistic expression, from theater to film and television. Therefore, the study of theatrical styles will not only enrich our knowledge of human history but will also give us a new perspective on the forms of artistic expression that we are used to seeing in our daily lives.

Practical Activity: "Unveiling Theatrical Styles"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to provide students with the opportunity to delve into the study of theatrical styles through research, analysis, reflection, and creative production. The project will culminate in the performance of a short play that represents a specific theatrical style, accompanied by a detailed written report.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5, and each group will choose a theatrical style to study. The research will include the origin of the style, its cultural and historical context, its main characteristics, and its main representatives.

After the research, students will create a script for a short play that represents the theatrical style they studied. The script must be faithful to the style and reflect its unique characteristics and aesthetics.

Finally, the students will perform the play for the class, allowing everyone to share their learning and appreciate the different forms of theatrical expression.

Necessary materials

• Books, articles, websites, and other resources for research
• Script writing materials (computer, paper, pens, etc.)
• Materials for the production of the play (costumes, sets, etc.)

Detailed step-by-step to carry out the activity

1. Form groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Each group chooses a theatrical style to study.
3. Conduct a detailed research on the chosen theatrical style.
4. Write a script for a short play that represents the theatrical style studied.
5. Prepare the production of the play (rehearsals, sets, costumes, etc.)
6. Perform the play for the class.
7. Write a detailed report on the project.

Project Deliverables

Students must deliver:

1. The script of the play.
2. A video of the play performed.
3. A written report that includes:
   • Introduction: Contextualization of the chosen theatrical style and description of the project objective.
   • Development: Detailed explanation of the research carried out, description of the script writing process and staging of the play, discussion of the difficulties encountered and how they were overcome, and reflection on the experience of working in a group.
   • Conclusions: Reflection on the learning acquired, highlighting what the students discovered about the theatrical style studied and about the skills developed during the project.
   • Bibliography: List of all resources used during the research.
