Warming Up

Explain to the students that throughout history, technology has always played a crucial role in the way people work. From the invention of the wheel to the Industrial Revolution and now in the digital age, technology influences and transforms work models. Ask students to use their phones to find an interesting fact about how technology impacted some form of work at any point in history and share it with the class.

Initial Reflections

1. What are some of the forms of work that have emerged due to technological advancement?

2. How have applications changed the way people find and perform jobs?

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of working using modern technologies like applications?

4. Do you know anyone who works through applications or digital platforms? How does that person describe their experience?

5. In your opinion, how can technology continue to transform the world of work in the future?

Development

Duration: 70 - 80 minutes

The purpose of this stage of the lesson plan is to allow students to deepen their knowledge about the relationship between technology and work, applying it in practice through creative and digital activities. The activities aim to engage students and develop essential skills for the modern world, such as digital communication, storytelling, and basic programming.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended that only one of the suggested activities be carried out

Activity 1 - Digital Influencer Mission 🌐✨

> Duration: 60 - 70 minutes

- Objective: Develop digital communication and marketing skills while understanding work dynamics mediated by applications.

- Description: Students must create a fictitious marketing campaign for a company that uses applications to hire its employees. They will need to use social media to promote this campaign, simulating the reality of a digital influencer.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Ask them to choose a fictitious company that operates with applications (e.g., food delivery, private transportation, freelance design).

  • Each group must create a marketing campaign to attract new workers to this company.

  • Students should use their phones to create social media posts (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter) and prepare a slideshow presentation about the campaign.

  • The campaign must include: a short video, three image posts with catchy text, a creative slogan, and relevant hashtags.

  • The groups must present their campaigns to the class, explaining their choices and strategies.

Activity 2 - Digital Worker Journey 🚀

> Duration: 60 - 70 minutes

- Objective: Explore the journey of digital workers, developing storytelling skills and utilizing creative digital tools.

- Description: Students must create an interactive storytelling using a story creation platform (e.g., StoryJumper, Canva) that narrates the journey of a digital worker, from signing up on the application to completing the work and receiving payment.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Ask them to choose a type of digital worker (e.g., ride-hailing driver, freelance designer, food delivery courier).

  • Each group must use a story creation platform (StoryJumper, Canva) to develop an interactive narrative.

  • The story must include: the signing-up process on the application, accepting a job, challenges faced, completing the task, and receiving payment.

  • Students must incorporate interactive elements, such as choices the worker needs to make and details about their experiences.

  • The groups must share their interactive stories with the class and explain the decisions made throughout the narrative.

Activity 3 - Digital Work Game 🎮

> Duration: 60 - 70 minutes

- Objective: Develop basic programming skills and understanding of digital work dynamics through gamification.

- Description: Students must create a simple digital game using a game creation platform (e.g., Scratch, Tynker) that simulates the experience of working through applications.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Ask them to choose a type of digital worker (e.g., food delivery courier, ride-hailing driver).

  • Each group must use a game creation platform (Scratch, Tynker) to develop a simulation game.

  • The game must include: the process of accepting a job, performing the task, and scoring based on task quality and time.

  • Encourage students to incorporate challenges into the game, such as dealing with customer reviews or technical problems.

  • The groups must test their games and present them to the class, explaining how the game reflects the reality of a digital worker.

Feedback

Duration: 15 - 20 minutes

The purpose of this stage of the lesson plan is to promote mutual and collaborative reflection on the knowledge acquired through the activities. Sharing experiences and practicing giving and receiving constructive feedback helps students consolidate their learning and develop important social skills for the future.

Group Discussion

Facilitate a group discussion with all students, where each group shares the learnings and conclusions reached through the activities performed. Use the following outline to introduce the discussion:

  1. Introduction: Briefly explain that the discussion aims to share experiences and learnings.
  2. Sharing: Ask each group to present a summary of their activity, highlighting the main challenges and successes.
  3. Learnings: Encourage students to reflect on what they learned about work and technology through the activities.
  4. Conclusions: Ask students to discuss their conclusions and how these activities may relate to the real world of work.

Reflections

1. What did you learn about the new forms of work mediated by technology? 2. What were the biggest challenges your group faced when creating the marketing campaign, the digital worker journey, and/or the game? 3. How do you see the impact of technology on work in both positive and negative ways?

360° Feedback

Instruct the class to conduct a 360° feedback session where each student must receive feedback from the other members of their group. Guide students to follow these guidelines for constructive and respectful feedback:

  1. Be Specific: Provide specific examples of what was done well and what could be improved.
  2. Be Respectful: Keep the feedback positive and focus on behavior, not the person.
  3. Embrace Growth: Encourage peers to see feedback as an opportunity to grow and improve.

Conclusion

Duration: 10 - 15 minutes

🎯 Purpose: The conclusion stage aims to consolidate the knowledge acquired during the class, connecting it with current reality and highlighting the practical importance of new forms of work mediated by technology. Reflecting on learning helps students internalize concepts and appreciate the skills developed.
