Assumptions: This Active Lesson Plan assumes: a 100-minute class, prior student study with both the Book and the start of Project development, and that only one activity (among the three suggested) will be chosen to be conducted during the class, as each activity is designed to take up a significant portion of the available time.

Objectives

The Objectives stage aims to set the goals for the lesson, directing students' focus to the essential skills that will be worked on. By clearly detailing what is expected to be achieved, this section serves as a guide for subsequent activities, ensuring that both the teacher and students have a clear understanding of what is necessary to achieve success in learning text interpretation.

Moreover, by contextualizing the relevance of text interpretation in daily life, this section seeks to connect academic content with practical applications, increasing interest and perception of the usefulness of learning.

Problem-Based Situations

1. Present students with a recent news article and ask them to interpret the subtext, identifying possible motives behind the actions of the characters involved. For example, a news article about a politician who changed parties and the political impacts this may bring.

2. Use an excerpt from a famous book that has a complex dialogue and ask students to identify the emotions and intentions of the characters through their dialogue, without the aid of direct descriptions from the author.

Contextualization

Explain the importance of text interpretation in everyday life, citing examples such as the need to understand contracts, instruction manuals, or even advertising texts to avoid misunderstandings. Also relate how the ability to infer meanings helps in problem-solving and decision-making, showing that this skill is crucial in various practical situations.

Development

Duration: (65 - 75 minutes)

The Development stage is designed to allow students to apply the text interpretation skills they have previously studied in a practical and interactive way. Each proposed activity aims to challenge the students to think critically, work in teams, and demonstrate their inferential and argumentative abilities in varied contexts. Choosing one of the proposed activities allows for a deeper understanding of text interpretation in a playful and engaging manner.

Activity 1 - Literary Detectives

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Develop the skills of textual interpretation and inference, as well as foster teamwork and logical argumentation.

- Description: In this activity, students will transform into literary detectives, using their interpretation skills to solve a 'crime' described in a short story. The story, previously prepared by the teacher, will present subtle clues in the form of metaphors, ambiguous dialogues, and descriptions that involve the five senses.

- Instructions:

• Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

• Distribute a copy of the story to each group.

• Ask each group to read the story quietly and highlight all the clues they find.

• Students must discuss in groups the possible interpretations of the clues, making notes.

• Each group must present its solution to the 'crime', justifying based on the clues found.

Activity 2 - Cinema in the Mind

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Stimulate the ability to infer and interpret gestures, expressions, and visual contexts, as well as promote creativity in writing.

- Description: Students will watch a short film or a clip from a film without sound. After viewing, they should write a narrative that describes what they think is happening in the film, based only on the facial expressions and body language of the actors and the visual settings.

- Instructions:

• Prepare a clip from a movie that has no dialogue to show to the class.

• Ask students to observe carefully and take notes on what they perceive.

• Give time for each group to write an interpretative narrative of what they believe is occurring in the film.

• Organize a class discussion, where each group presents their version and discusses the different interpretations.

Activity 3 - Word Drama

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Enhance the ability to interpret texts through different perspectives and styles, as well as develop presentation and argumentation skills.

- Description: In this activity, students will create small dialogues based on words or phrases from a text provided by the teacher, exploring different possibilities for interpretation. Each dialogue should reflect a unique interpretation of the text, which can be humorous, dramatic, ironic, etc.

- Instructions:

• Divide the class into groups and distribute text excerpts to each.

• Ask each group to choose words or phrases from the text to base their dialogue.

• Groups should write and rehearse their dialogues, considering different tones and possible interpretations.

• Each group presents their dialogue, and the class discusses the variations of interpretation of the texts based on the dialogues.

Feedback

Duration: (20 - 30 minutes)

The purpose of this stage is to consolidate learning, allowing students to articulate and compare their interpretations, which facilitates the identification of common errors and the refinement of interpretation techniques. Moreover, this group discussion promotes argumentative ability and active listening, valuable skills both in academic and professional contexts.

Group Discussion

Start the group discussion by reminding students of the importance of sharing their discoveries and interpretations. Suggest that each group begin by presenting a brief summary of what they discussed and the conclusions they reached. Encourage students to explain how they arrived at these conclusions, highlighting the clues they considered most relevant and how they interpreted them. Use open-ended questions to expand the discussion and integrate different perspectives.
