Oral Activities

Oral Activities | Teachy Summary

Once upon a time, in a vibrant third year of high school, a group of students was eager to take on the new challenge proposed by their English teacher. Today, it wouldn't be a traditional class but rather an immersion in a world where their oral English skills would be tested in innovative and surprising ways. The entire class was buzzing, each student with their own notebook and digital equipment, ready to explore new territories.

'Good afternoon, everyone! Today, you will transform into digital influencers, storytellers on social media, and explorers of the metaverse. Are you ready for this adventure?' The teacher's voice sounded with enthusiasm and mystery, as if he were about to open the doors to a new universe. With bright eyes and phones in hand, the students quickly divided into groups, ready to create and interact on various digital platforms.

The first destination? The land of digital influencers! The groups were tasked with creating a 2 to 3-minute video, promoting a fictitious product or service entirely in English. At first, it seemed simple – but soon they realized the complexity of the process. Planning a script, choosing the best words, and, above all, speaking clearly in front of the camera became quite a challenge. They watched tutorials on how to appear natural in front of the camera and how to edit videos more professionally, using applications like InShot and iMovie. The class was on a creativity marathon.

During the recording sessions, the classroom transformed into a real audiovisual production studio. Amidst mistakes and successes, laughter and re-recorded clips, each group put their best foot forward in their projects. Gradually, they gained confidence and fluency in the English language. The activity not only consolidated vocabularies and grammatical structures learned but also prepared the students for real communication challenges. Finally, they shared their creations on a private class social media page, where they could give and receive constructive feedback.

But the journey was far from over. With open eyes and hearts, our young adventurers entered the world of interactive stories on Instagram stories. Divided into groups, they worked hard to create engaging sequences about everyday situations, all relying on effective communication in English. Imagine the excitement of role-playing a request for directions on the street, or the laughter while simulating a complicated purchase in a department store. Each story contained a question or riddle that challenged their classmates to interact and reflect, transcending mere language exercises and becoming a collaborative experience.

Each student had to put their writing and improvisation skills into practice. They discovered that creating captivating plots, even for everyday situations, required more of their language skills than they had imagined. During these activities, they faced mistakes and challenges but learned that communication is not just about speaking correctly – it's about connecting, engaging, and conveying messages clearly and effectively.

As they reached the last stage of the adventure, the students were transported to the metaverse using virtual reality platforms like AltspaceVR. With VR goggles on, they found themselves in simulated environments that reflected the real world – from bustling cafes to subway stations filled with virtual passengers. There, each interaction required the practical application of English to ask for information, make purchases, or solve everyday problems. The virtual challenges stimulated improvisation and quick decision-making, placing them in situations that required immediate reasoning and effective communication.

The total immersion in this new world was an incredible experience. As they solved problems, expressed themselves in unfamiliar environments, and interacted with other characters, the students developed the self-confidence necessary to use English in the real world. After each activity, a moment of reflection allowed them to share their experiences, adjust strategies, and recognize their progress.

At the end of the day, gathered in a reflection circle, each group presented what they had learned and how the activities enriched their confidence in using English. Technology was not just an accessory but a bridge that connected school learning to the global and digital reality that surrounds us. Everyone realized that they had taken a giant step forward in their educational journey.

And thus, with a sense of achievement and a new level of confidence, each student left the class ready to face the world – a world where mastering communication in English can open doors to infinite opportunities. And this, dear students, is just the first page of a long and exciting learning journey.
